UPDATED: Terrible incident involving referee spot takes place during 3/12 OVW show

Updated 10:25 pm ET

Referee Dallas Edwards issued a statement on social media, pertaining to his medical emergency at Thursday evening’s OVW show.

Edwards said the following:

Hey guys! I know everyone seems to know about the scary incident last night at OVW. I have been elvauted and I have a concussion as well as a subdural hematoma (brain bleed).

With that being said, I have made the decision to take some needed time away to get my life and health back in good spirits.

I appreciate all of the support everyone has been offering but as far as money goes, I am grateful to be in a position that I can manage an accident like this.

In lieu of donations, I instead implore all of my fellow workers to get some sort of training in assisting another’s life.

Being in the position before, it’s very important to be educated in all scenarios relating to injury, illness, or condition in the ring, especially when we’re performing.

I am not mad at anyone or anything other than the situation as a whole, and that I’ve been sitting for about 24 hours straight in a hospital ll.

As far as updates go, I am getting a CT SCAN in the morning and if that goes well, I’ll be home.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out or stopped by, it means more than any of you know.

Love, Dally

OWV has issued a statement regarding the medical emergency that took place involving referee Dallas Edwards on Thursday, in which Edwards began to experience a seizure upon being hit with a flying forearm from Rush Champion Brendan Balling.

**********

-Original report – 3:17 pm ET-

During Thursday’s Ohio Valley Wrestling’s weekly series Rise on YouTube, which took place at the Hotpoint Arena in Louisville, Kentucky, a very horrible incident took place in the ring during the multi-man main involving referee Dallas Edwards.

During the match, OVW Rush Champion Brendan Balling came off the top rope, planning to hit Tony Evans with a flying forearm. However, Evans pulled referee Dallas Edwards in the way and Balling hits Edwards in the head, legitimately knocking him unconscious. Edwards then began to experience a seizure with convulsions, with his arms and legs twitching.

Instead of stopping their match, Balling and Evans continued performing around Edwards, with Evans grabbing Edwards by his pants and rolling him out of the way, then pushed him with his foot. Eventually the match was stopped by OVW officials with the cameras not on Edwards. The commentary team then announced the show was going off the air due to a medical emergency with Edwards.

At this point, someone hit the ring and the match was stopped with cameras kept off Edwards.  The promotion then announced they were going off the air due to Edwards’ medical situation.

The incident, which again is disturbing, starts at around the 1:57:26 min mark of the show. Balling starts climbing the ropes just a few seconds before.

At the time of this writing, OVW has not commented on the incident.

Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp posted a statement on X from Edwards’s girlfriend regarding the incident.

“Please keep Dallas in your thoughts as your day begins. I am not going to provide much more information at this time except to the parties who already know, but last night resulted in a brain injury that is being monitored and will continue to be monitored by doctors here. Seeing all the support you guys have already given is amazing and I didn’t want to leave everyone without some kind of update.”
