The Butcher addresses AEW contract status

In an interview with Youngstown Studio, The Butcher provided an update on his status with AEW after being out of action for over a year.

Revealing he is still under contract with the company despite his last match being in February 2025, Butcher provided details on his tag partner’s injury and how it played into the time away:

That was the big thing is Blade had his back fused. So, like, as a tag team wrestler, it’s like how many times can you send a guy out there in singles matches and then they lose after you know what I mean?” Butcher said. “Like you kind of have to shove them. And I kind of understand and try to be like humble with that.

It gets… it does seep into your head like, ‘Dude, what did I do wrong?’ You know what I mean? Cause like no one talks to you. I haven’t. You know what I mean? Like, it’s not like they’re checking up on me every week, going like, ‘How you doing, dude?’

Despite being away for so long, Butcher does express gratitude to AEW for paying him throughout, while noting that Blade is now healthy before dropping a tease for a potential return:

And just waiting for the call for a return, and hopefully it happens soon. I know that there’s like a lot of injuries going on right now in AEW. So, that’s usually an indicator that, like they’re probably going to bring some guys back that they’re sitting.
