AEW Dynasty media call highlights: Tony Khan addresses injuries, returns, and more!

During a media call ahead of AEW Dynasty, Tony Khan addressed a number of topics from Kyle Fletcher’s recent injury to the return of Chris Jericho, and much more.

The following highlights are courtesy of F4WOnline:

  • Kyle Fletcher’s injury: The AEW President said the injury affected plans for several shows including Dynasty, in addition to other TNT Title defenses that were planned. Khan noted he has taken “a half-full approach” to the injury, as there is also a lot of positivity. Hoping Fletcher will be back in time for All In London as “a goal and realistic based on the timeline”
  • The return of Chris Jericho: Khan stated that Jericho has indeed re-signed a multi-year deal with AEW, and that the first-ever AEW World Champion had “a lot of options from around the world of wrestling” and wanted to return on TV at Winnipeg and back in the ring at Dynasty, a year after his last match for the company.
  • Tony Khan’s WWE bid in 2023: Previously stating he would “not be able to live with himself” if he didn’t make a bid for the company, Khan clarified by stating it was an interesting opportunity in the market but he was flying blind compared to others given various restrictions. Stated his bid was based on the stock market rather than the same info other bidders were getting. Ultimately states he thought it was “an opportunity worth exploring.”
  • TNA pulling their competitors from matches against AEW talents: Khan stated he approved the matches MJF and Ricochet were involved in, putting over his partnerships with NJPW and CMLL as he loves collaboration. Was “surprised to see those matches were changed” as they were previously agreed upon.

Among other topics discussed briefly were the return of the Spring BreakThru editions of Dynamite and Collision and that the company will work with Stardom this summer on events including Forbidden Door.

AEW Dynasty emanates from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on Sunday, April 12.
