Sports Illustrated names AEW star Jon Moxley wrestler of the year

Sports Illustrated has named AEW star Jon Moxley wrestler of the year in their top 10 list.

Sports Illustrated cites his Light’s Out Match at the Full Fear PPV which brought legitimacy and authenticity to the industry, his television appearances and interviews are just some of the reasons he was selected as their number one pick. 

In January, WWE announced that Ambrose was leaving the company after his contract was set to expire sometime after WrestleMania. 

WWE reunited The Shield and put Ambrose in the main event of the March Fastlane pay-per-view, with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. 

Ambrose’s last televised appearace on WWE television was in April on the WWE Network special event “The Shield’s Final Chapter.” 

Ambrose made his surprise debut under his former in-ring name of Jon Moxley during the closing moments of AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV back on May 25 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After he made his debut at Double or Nothing, he sat down with Chris Jericho on the “Talk is Jericho” podcast to give his many reasons why he left ultimately left WWE.
