Report: GCW Opposes AEW’s ‘Fight Forever’ Trademark, In Settlement Negotiations

According to a report from Fightful, it appears that the AEW Fight Forever video game has hit yet another potential obstacle that could further delay it’s release.

Fightful also notes that Attorney Mike Dockins filed paperwork on behalf of Game Changer Wrestling with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on March 1, 2023. The filing states that GCW is opposing AEW’s trademark of “Fight Forever”, and that the USPTO’s approved their request. The documents further note that GCW has asked for a 90-day extension to file a notice of opposition, which was granted. The document does reveal that GCW and AEW are currently in settlement negotiations.

The time for GCW to file a notice of opposition was intially scheduled to expire on March 22, 2023. GCW requested and was granted an extension up until May 31, 2023, to allow their legal counsel more time to investigate the matter.

GCW filed for a trademark on “Fight Forever” back on July 21, 2022, after AEW filed for their trademark back on March 21, 2022. GCW held a 24-hour Fight Forever event on January 29, 2021.

Pursuant to 37 C.F.R. Section 2.102, Game Changer Wrestling, LLC, 1000 Jackson St., Toledo, OH 43504, UNITED States, a limited liability company, organized by the laws of Delaware, respectfully requests that it be granted a 90-day extension of time to file a notice of opposition against the above-identified mark for cause shown.

Potential opposed believes that good causes are established for this request by:

-The potential opposed needs additional time to investigate the claim.

– The potential opposer needs additional time to confer with counsel.

– The potential opposer is engaged in settlement discussions with applicant.

During an appearance on the Swerve City Podcast last month, AEW EVP Kenny Omega said they had delays in the release of the game, due to having to scale down content in order for it to get a ‘Teen’ rating in the United States by the ESRB (Entertainment Ratings Software Board).

Just last month, Best Buy’s website listed the release date for the game as March 31, 2023. However, as of this writing the release date is now showing as ‘not yet announced.’

CGW Owner Brett Lauderdale replied to a fan on Twitter (see below), who said that GCW just wants some of Tony Khan’s money.
