Judge denies motion from AEW to dismiss Composite Effects lawsuit

In December 2022, a company called Composite Effects, LLC filed a a legal complaint against All Elite Wrestling and Austin Matelson (Luchasaurus) based on the claim that the designer has the copyright of the wrestler’s mask.

The complaint stems from concerns over the use of the mask’s design in merchandise, particularly once Matelson signed with AEW in 2019.

As recently as March, it was reported that AEW moved to dismiss five of the six counts levied against them…but ultimately, a judge in the United States District Court in Lousiana has ruled that CFX adequately pleaded its breach of contract and LUPTA claims, as well as claims of copyright.
