Following the announcement of Mistico taking on Rocky Romero on the 10/18 edition of AEW Rampage, CMLL has posted an official announcement on social media:
In the statement, CMLL confirms the upcoming match between Mistico and Romero, calling it the beginning of a new era for both companies and expressing excitement for future opportunities to work together.
This was followed by a statement from AEW President Tony Khan, calling it a great honor to meet with officials from CMLL to make the match happen.
This new partnership follows previous affiliations between AEW and AAA, and CMLL’s ongoing partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling and ROH.
Mistico is the current NWA World Historic Middleweight Champion, whereas Rocky Romero won the belt earlier this year, which sets the stage for the “Mexico’s Pound-For-Pound Crown” tagline for the bout.
