Notes from 2/29 AEW Media Call with Tony Khan

The following are notes from Thursday’s AEW Media Call with Tony Khan.

-When asked about increasing pay-per-view events, Khan said he could see 2024 have 9 to 10 shows, with 9 probably being the sweet spot.

-Khan said AEW is looking at “huge increases” for its media rights deals in 2025. He went on to say that it will put AEW over the top in many ways. He further said in 2025 they will have gone from “startup company” to “established challenger,” which was always been his five-year plan.  

-When asked about AEW’s disciplinary committee and their qualifications for dealing with sexual misconduct claims, Khan said they have two attorneys and Bryan Danielson on the committee. Khan also noted that they have done their best to train them to handle all types of claims.

-The Meat Madness was “put on ice” as Miro and Keith Lee are both out with injuries. Khan said the match will take place in the future.

-A question was asked about former NWA Women’s Champion Kamille. Khan said she is “a great free agent” and that hef respects her and enjoyed meeting her.  

-Khan said Samoa Joe is the best champion you could ask for

-Khan praised Daniel Garcia, saying that he could be a great champion in any wrestling company and has has been improving consistently

-Newly hired Jennifer Pepperman has been at the last couple of shows. Khan said that she is not limited to just one story creatively and is contributing to the overall product. Khan added that she is fitting in nicely. 

-Khan teased “something exciting” for fans going to the show in at the Gas South Arena in Duluth, GA on March 6. (Fightful Select is reporting this could be the debut of former NJPW star Kazuchika Okada).

-Khan said that Sting is always welcome in AEW and hopes he will remain involved with the company.
