Fightful Select has published a report on backstage news as it pertains to the finish for the main event Men’s Owen Hart Cup Finals Tournament Match from this past Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing PPV, between Will Ospreay and “Hangman” Adam Page.
The report notes that weeks leading up to show, AEW and Tony Khan went to great lengths to keep the finish a secret. It was said that sources noted the secrecy extended even to the talent involved. Furthermore, Ospreay and Page were informed earlier during the weekend.
Fightful Select also said they learned that Page advocated for Ospreay to win the match, while at the same time, Ospreay was pushing for Page to end up the winner. Additionally, sources told Fightful that even Tony Khan remained noncommittal when he was asked by talent about the finish, which only added to speculation backstage, which in had most in shock, as the assumption was Ospreay would be the victor of the match.
The report also adds that AEW World Champion Jon Moxley expressed that he preferred to have Page to win. However, there is no evidence he had any influence on Page winning.
Fightful Select concluded by noting that the match received high praise and a positive reaction backstage, solidifying reports there is a strong morale right now in AEW.
