During Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming, Samoa Joe made an apparent reference to John Cena during his successful World Title defense against Eddie Kingston.
Joe locked Kingston in the STF on Kingston, then looked into the camera and gave a salute. The move has been seen as Joe giving Cena a salute ahead of his final match this Saturday.
Cena acknowledged the nod by posting a screenshot of Joe’s salute to his Instagram. Joe and Cena both started out together training at Rick Bassman’s UPW in California.
John Cena’s retirement match against Gunther will be part of Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, which takes place at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. The show will air live exclusively on Peacock in the United States and Netflix internationally, with a start time of 8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT.
