During an appearance on the Yo Josh Martinez Show, Tony Khan was asked for his thoughts on Powerhouse Hobbs and AJ Styles.
Addressing a former AEW World Trios Champion in Hobbs, who debuted for WWE at the Royal Rumble under the name Royce Keys, the AEW President said:
I think Powerhouse Hobbs had a great run here in AEW. He started wrestling here in Jacksonville, where I am now, and had some great matches and became a champion in AEW.
He’s a former TNT Champion, former World Trios Champion. I’ll always wish him all the best.
Regarding Styles, whose in-ring career with WWE appears to have ended after his loss to Gunther at the Rumble event, Khan remarked on the Phenomenal One’s decorated career:
I think that AJ Styles is absolutely a fantastic wrestler. He’s one of my favorites, and I think he’s had an amazing career all over the world. He’s never been in AEW before, but he has wrestled in Ring of Honor, and in Ring of Honor he had some fantastic matches.”
As a fan, some of my favorite stuff is when AJ Styles was in New Japan Pro Wrestling. He had fantastic matches there. His match with Minoru Suzuki is one of my personal favorites, and he had a great alliance with the Bullet Club at that time.
Absolutely some of my personal favorite stuff would have been in New Japan Pro Wrestling with him. He’s somebody who’s had a great career in so many different companies around the world, and certainly I consider him to be one of the all-time greats.
Khan did not comment on the possibility of Styles competing for AEW, which was recently reported as a “major point of conversation backstage” in the company.
