Weekly Column: The Eye of the Nemer #2 – WWE Hell in a Cell 2019 predictions

Welcome everyone to the second edition of The Eye of the Nemer. If you missed last week’s debut column, I looked at “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and if he’s the best character in WWE.

This week’s column is attempting to predict tonight’s Hell in a Cell show. Only four matches have been announced for the card, which is surprising but there will surely be a last minute addition. The build-up to the show took a bit of a back seat this week, at least on Smackdown, with it moving to Fox on Friday’s.

Three championship matches, one tag team match, I would like to think I can get a passing mark of 50% for this one. Let’s take a look at the card for tonight’s show in Sacramento.

WWE Universal Championship – Hell in a Cell match
Seth Rollins (c) vs. The Fiend Bray Wyatt

WWE Raw Women’s Championship – Hell in a Cell match
Becky Lynch (c) vs. Sasha Banks

WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship – Singles Match
Bayley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair

Tag Team Match
Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns vs. Erick Rowan and Luke Harper

Beginning with the only match that doesn’t have a championship involved, the tag team match. I’m still unsure as to how I feel about the entire payoff to this Roman Reigns attack storyline. It had a lot of potential but it sort of feels like a let down.

We have a returning Luke Harper helping out his old partner Erick Rowan and an unlikely alliance in Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan. No matter the outcome of this one, I feel like we will get a Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan match at Crown Jewel. By that time the draft would have happened and who knows where Roman Reigns and Luke Harper will be come the show in Saudi Arabia.

For some reason I care very little about this match, despite me covering Smackdown here for Wrestleview and being invested in the feud at one point. I’ll go with a victory for Erick Rowan and Luke Harper as those two need the push far more than Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan do.

Prediction: Erick Rowan and Luke Harper

Up next we have Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair, a rematch from Clash of Champions. I thought their match last month was underwhelming considering the short length. With only four matches on the card, this one will be significantly longer. Bayley as champion has gotten interesting due to the involvement and the return of Sasha Banks. But her as a champion on her own, has not interested me much at all. With the draft happening, I think creative will go with Charlotte as champion leading one of the brands and I’ll say she gets the win.

Prediction: New WWE Smackdown Women’s champion, Charlotte Flair

The second of two women’s championship matches and the one which has caught my attention, Becky Lynch against Sasha Banks. Storyline wise, I think they’ve done a great job with this feud. Absolutely spot on with everything but I can’t help but think Sasha Banks wins the WWE Raw Women’s championship. A heel run from Banks up until Wrestlemania or at least the new year could be great. Add to it that it feels as if we have had Becky Lynch wrestle everyone in the women’s division and it’s the most logical choice. With Sasha’s return and the way she’s been built, she has to win this one.

Prediction: New WWE Raw Women’s champion, Sasha Banks

Match number four of four, it’s Seth Rollins against “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt for the Universal title. I can’t see an outcome which does not include Wyatt winning the championship. I just can’t. Wyatt’s return at Summerslam left fans wanting more. I wrote last week about “The Fiend” being the best character the company currently has and I stand by it. A championship run for “The Fiend” could be marvelous. Wreaking havoc on the entire roster and who knows what kind of Firefly Fun House clips we would get.

A win for Wyatt for me would be best for everyone, including Seth Rollins. Rollins would likely be better on Smackdown than on Raw. I feel as though Rollins on Monday’s has run its course. And with Wyatt, if he doesn’t win tonight, the entire journey since “The Fiend” started would be a repeat of the regular Bray Wyatt. A lot of talk but when the big match comes around, he can’t cut it. The character would take a hit and it would not be the same. Which is why I am saying we get a new champion.

Winner: New Universal champion, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt
