Cometa & Namajague Hair Match
This week CMLL announced that Rey Cometa will face Namajague in a Hair vs. Hair Match on 04/26. Namajague just lost his mask to Cometa & Stuka Jr. last month in an excellent Double Mask vs. Hair Match. Many were expecting Aguila-Shocker in a Hair Match on 04/26 so it looks like that match isn’t happening.

Volador Jr. Auctioning Off Gear
This week CMLL’s Volador Jr. announced that he is going to auction off his Venom (from Spiderman) inspired ring-worn gear to raise funds for his father (Volador Sr./Super Park) to get a knee surgery he is badly in need of. The winner of the auction will get the full set of gear (pictured below) as well as 2 tickets to either an Arena Mexico or Arena Coliseo event, a Volador Jr. t-shirt, photos with Volador, collectible stickers of Volador Jr., and his autograph. For more info visit Volador’s Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Volador-Oficial-CMLL/193158900701311).

AAA

AAA Stars In Puerto Rico
Several AAA stars (and other luchadors) are in Puerto Rico this weekend for the huge WWL “Idols of Wrestling” iPPV on 04/21 in San Juan. The huge show will feature former AAA star Laredo Kid teaming with Hombre Sin Miedo & Estralaris to face Hammet, Noriega, & former CHIKARA star Lince Dorado in a 6-Man Tag Team Match. Mini Chupacabra will face Pierrothito in a Lucha Minis Match. Also, Sicodelico Jr. will defend the Zero-1 MEX Title in a Fatal 4-Way against AAA’s Octagon Jr. (who hasn’t been seen in AAA much this year), Hijo de Rey Misterio, and recent AAA signee Axxel. AAA’s Blue Demon Jr. will get a shot at Oliver John’s PWR Heavyweight Title and then Texano Jr. will defend the AAA World Heavyweight Title against El Mesias. TNA stars Bobby Roode, James Storm, Samoa Joe, Adam Pearce, Abyss, & Bad Influence will also wrestle along with former WWE & TNA star Bobby Lashley and a slew of others. Highspots.com will be hosting the live iPPV stream for $9.99 on their website.

AAA 04/15 “TV Taping” Domo de la Feria de Leon Results
1) Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Charly Manson, & Mini Histeria def. Dinastia, Mascarita Divina, & Rey Celestial
2) Fabi Apache, Jennifer Blake, & Lolita def. Mari Apache, Sexy Lady, & Taya Valkyrie
3) Aerostar, Argenis, & Fenix def. Los Inferno Rockers (Devil Rocker, Machine Rocker, & Soul Rocker)
4) Los Mirreyes (Alan Stone, El Elegido, & Toscano) def. El Consejo (Argos, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., & Silver Kain)
5) No DQ Match: Dark Family (Cuervo, Escoria, Espiritu, & Ozz) def. Los Perros del Mal (Perro Aguayo Jr., Psicosis, Halloween, & Daga)
6) Blue Demon Jr. & El Mesias def. L.A. Park & Texano Jr.
* NOTES *
– After the 2nd match Blue Demon Jr. was brought out and AAA announced that he has signed a contract with AAA officially. Demon then introduced Axxel (one of El Santo’s grandsons) who has also signed with AAA obviously paying homage to the old Blue Demon-El Santo rivalry and tag team. This is definitely going to piss El Hijo del Santo off (he sued Axxel in the past stopping him from using the Nieto del Santo name which Santo has given his son now, and Demon & Santo have worked together frequently in the past few years). AAA also announced the Leyenda Azul Tournament (which CMLL has used for years) will be coming to AAA as well (it’s a tribute to the original Blue Demon) and they even introduced the belt that will stand as the trophy.
– Konnan and Dorian Roldan then made their first appearance since they were “fired” earlier this year. Konnan said that he was returning to the ring (he said last year that he wanted to do one more run) and teased a match with Demon.
– Los Mirreyes is Toscano’s new group.
– During the Semi-Main Event someone wearing Axxel’s mask (not the actual Axxel) ran out and attacked the tecnicos. He then unmasked revealing himself to be Ricky Marvin, the newest member of Perros del Mal.
– During the Main Event Demon & Mesias argued throughout but still managed to win. After the match Mesias was in the middle of challenging Park to a match when Mesias jumped him in seemingly a rudo turn.
– No sign of the supposed roster split yet.

AAA-Evolucion 04/20 “TV Taping” Corboda, Veracruz Lineup

2) Atomic Boy, Fabi Apache, & La Jarochita vs. Gran Apache, Sexy Lady, & Taya Valkyrie
3) Crazy Boy & Joe Lider vs. Dr. Cerebro & Eterno
4) Los Mirreyes vs. Los Inferno Rockers
5) Drago, Fenix, & Octagon vs. Chessman, Pentagon Jr., & Silver Kain
6) Cibernetico, Cuervo, & Escoria vs. Los Perros del Mal (Psicosis, Halloween, & Daga)
* NOTES *
– This is supposed to be the first TV Taping for the AAA-Evolucion (Konnan & Dorian) show but absolutely no sign of a roster split.

INDY & OTHER NEWS

First Teams Announced for CHIKARA’s Grand Prix Tournament
CHIKARA has revealed the first teams for this year’s Tag World Grand Prix Tournament being held on May 18th & 19th in Chicago, IL. CHIKARA hasn’t held a Tag World Grand Prix since 2008 and this will be the 5th overall. The teams announced thus far are former WWE stars The Heart Throbs (Antonio Thomas & Romeo Roselli), The Devastation Corporation (Max Smashmaster & Blaster McMassive), 2005 Tag World Grand Prix winners AC/DC (Arik Cannon & Darin Corbin), Los Ice Creams (Ice Cream Jr. & Hijo del Ice Cream), The Baltic Siege (The Estonian Thunderfrog & Latvian Proud Oak), The Bravado Brothers (Lancelot & Harlem Bravado), and The Kentucky Buffet (Matt Cage & Alex Castle). Teams that have won in the past are The Night Shift (Blind Rage & Hallowicked) in 2003, AC/DC in 2005, Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli aka Kassius Ohno & Antonio Cesaro of WWE), and The Colony (Fire Ant & Soldier Ant). In the past a slew of international stars (as well as TNA/ROH wrestlers) have competed in this tournament including Skayde, El Generico, Kevin Steen, Milanito Collection AT, TNA’s Jay Bradley, ROH’s Jimmy Jacobs, Milano Collection AT, Ian Rotten, Super Dragon, Johnny Kidd, PAC (now in WWE), and many others. It’s hard to know how many teams will be involved in this year’s tournament because in 2003 they had 12 teams while the 2005 & 2006 tournaments had a massive 32 teams and then it went back down to just 12 in 2008.

– Heavy Metal pinned Texano clean in the 3rd Fall of the Main Event, and then challenged him to defend the AAA World Title. Texano accepted and then Danny Casas challenged Eterno to put his Hair up against him but Eterno was having none of that.

6) Blue Demon Jr. & Solar I def. Jon Rekon & RJ Brewer
* NOTES *
– Dr. Pepper Man was expected to be Rocky Romero in a mask. Dr. Pepper is one of the sponsors of Lucha Libre USA’s tour so this is an old school Lucha gimmick where a luchador does a gimmick based on a sponsor (kind of like when Drago was actually Gato Eveready because of Eveready Batteries sponsoring AAA).
– Hurricane & Lizmark was said to have been really bad and that Lizmark looked horrible.
– The Main Event was said to be really good and after the match Demon & Solar put a lucha mask on Brewer to embarrass him.

LUCHA SPOTLIGHT:
REAL FUERZA AEREA

L to R: Rey Cometa, Pegasso, Super Fly, Aerostar, & Laredo Kid

In the early 2000’s AAA owner Antonio Pena put together a group of young high flyers called “Real Fuerza Aerea” (Royal Air Force) based on the popular 90’s AAA version of Los Cadetes del Espacio (The Space Cadets) which was actually a newer version of a popular UWA group from years earlier (http://luchawiki.org/index.php?title=Los_Cadetes_Del_Espacio_%28AAA%29). The concept was simply a group of young high flyers that Pena put together. The original members were Super Fly, Laredo Kid, Rey Cometa, & Nemesis which were actually the last characters Antonio Pena created before he passed away. El Angel, Pegasso, & Aerostar then joined the group and they routinely stole the show with their incredible high flying moves. Over the years other members in and out of the group have included Gato Eveready (now known as Drago), Argos, & Argenis. Laredo Kid seemed to be positioned as the future star of the group but he suffered several leg injuries over the years which seemed to stall out his momentum each time. In 2008 Pegasso & Rey Cometa grew frustrated with AAA over lack of bookings so they left and joined CMLL. Nemesis left AAA during this time as well. In 2009 El Angel left AAAA and Super Fly began calling himself the “leader” of the group which drew the ire from the other members and it seemed that they were headed towards a split, but then the legendary Octagon came into the picture as a mentor to the group and kept them together. In 2010 the split did happen when Super Fly turned on Octagon and the rest of the group, and formed his own group La Milicia.

After the Super Fly split Laredo Kid & Aerostar continued own as the only members of Real Fuerza Aerea until Argenis & Argos joined the group. Argos turned on them not too long after joining, however. Laredo Kid then began appearing less and less regularly and eventually was let from AAA all together. Aerostar has suffered a similar fate as AAA only uses him every once and awhile though he is still signed to the promotion. In 2012 Super Fly rejoined Real Fuerza Aerea after La Milicia turned on him. Super Fly, Argenis, & Aerostar is the official lineup of the group at this time with Atomic Boy & Fenix also teaming with the trio regularly and are potential future official members.

Former members Pegasso & Rey Cometa have enjoyed some success in CMLL since leaving AAA. They teamed together at the bottom of the card for the first couple of years but have moved further up the card and even Main Evented some, especially Cometa. They still team together at times but Cometa has moved into a more prominent role and has began teaming with Stuka Jr. more than with Cometa. In 2012 Cometa had a very memorable feud with Puma King which led to a Mask vs. Mask Match where Puma took Cometa’s mask. Then in 2013 Cometa & Stuka began feuding with the Japanese duo of Namajague & Shigeo Okumura which led to a Double Mask vs. Hair Match with Cometa & Stuka winning it. Cometa currently is feuding with Namajague in a singles feud and they will be facing each other in a Hair vs. Hair Match later this month.

Nemesis has bounced around the Indies primarily since leaving AAA and the same goes for Laredo Kid and El Angel with Angel primarily working for IWRG. Laredo Kid will be competing in Puerto Rico as a part of the big WWL “Idols of Wrestling” event on 04/21. Real Fuerza Aerea continues to be an entertaining group of high flyers that would benefit from getting more TV time as well as real storylines, especially Aerostar who is being misused the most. Most of the members are still either in their early 30’s or their 20’s.
