AAA

Sin Cara/WWE Drama
The reason going around for why Sin Cara only made a brief appearance and never showed his face/mask and his name was never mentioned is that AAA just flat out doesn’t know what to call him. The rumor is that WWE has already threatened legal action against AAA if they use the “Sin Cara” name on TV or the mask and Sin Cara has been claiming that he owns the rights to the name and the mask. Now, he is claiming that in May he will have the legal rights to the name which doesn’t make sense at all. So AAA has found itself in a tight spot not being able to call him Sin Cara or Mistico (since CMLL owns the rights to the name). They may have to end up using some variation of the name like “Mystiko” or “Mystico” or something of that nature. The next TV Taping is on 03/03 and they can stretch this whole hiding his identity thing out until then but I don’t think they will be able to get away it at “Rey de Reyes” (03/16) which gives them less than a month to figure things out.

MISC/INDY

Extreme Tiger/TNA Signing Made Official
This week TNA Wrestling sent a press release to SuperLuchas.net confirming the signing of Extreme Tiger, now to be known as “Tigre Uno,” to the company. TNA confirmed that he would be making his “debut” with the promotion on March 9th at the “Lockdown” PPV in Miami, Florida. Tigre Uno will team with the legendary Great Muta and Muta’s protégé Senada in a 6-Man Tag Team Steel Cage Match against the team of Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels & Kazarian) and Chris Sabin in what should be an interesting international showcase.

Villano V Very Ill
It was reported last week by INDY luchador Kortiz that his father Villano V has been very ill lately suffering from pneumonia. Later in the week Kortiz said that he was doing a bit better but still very ill.

Rey Mysterio Update
As was reported this past weekend by Adam Martin (Update on Rey Mysterio and his WWE contract status), Dave Meltzer is claiming in the Wrestling Observer that Rey Mysterio Jr.’s contract will expire in the next two months and WWE is expected not to offer him a new deal. Mysterio has been plagued by countless injuries over the last few years despite being one of the top merchandise sellers to this day. Over the past few years Mysterio has expressed interest in doing another run in Mexico after his WWE career ended so that could actually be coming sooner rather than later. We may just get to see that Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara/Mistico dream match afterall.

ECW Arena Lucha Show Update
This week the previously announced Masked Republic Lucha Event “Masked Mania” coming to the ECW Arena in Philadelphia in April also announced that they would also be airing the event live on iPPV via HighspotsTV for $9.99. Anyone that orders the show will also be able to watch the event VOD for 30 days. Several matches have already been announced for the event. In a 6-Man Tag Team Match straight from CHIKARA The Osirian Portal (Ophidian & Amasis) will team with Green Ant to face the “3 Live Gringos” team of Chuck Taylor, Orange Cassidy, and Papadon. Cassandro will face “M-Dogg 20” Matt Cross as well, and a huge “Extreme Trios” will see the team of Damian 666, Bestia 666, and Sabu face off against BLK OUT (Ruckus & BLK JEEZ) and Luke Hawx. The Main Event will see Dr. Wagner Jr. face off against L.A. Park in a huge one-on-one matchup. More matches will be announced soon featuring Solar, Negro Navarro, Ultimo Panda, Christina Von Eerie, and more. To pre-order the iPPV go here: http://highspots.tv/ippv-masked-mania-4-27-2014/.

CHIKARA Announces Movie, New Tour Dates
The return of CHIKARA Pro has brought alot of excitement to the American Lucha promotion as tickets for it’s return event 05/25 in Easton, PA sold out extremely quickly causing them to add seats. Now CHIKARA has announced that they will be premiering a movie called “The Ashes of CHIKARA” which will tell the story of CHIKARA on 05/05 in Collegeville, PA. Also, new events for 06/21 (Chicago, IL) and 06/22 (Detroit, MI) have been announced.

DG-USA 02/22 “Revolt! ’14” Elmhurst, NY Results

4) The Gentlemens Club (Chuck Taylor & Orange Cassidy) def. The Bravado Brothers (Harlem & Lancelot Bravado) via DQ
5) Rich Swann def. Tony Nese
6) Triple Threat: Mr. A def. Fire Ant & Shane Strickland
7) EVOLVE Title: AR Fox (c) def. Drew Gulak to retain the title!
8) Open the Freedom Gate Title: Johnny Gargano (c) def. Trent Barreta to retain the title!
* NOTES *
– Yosuke Santa Maria does an over the top “gay” gimmick like Maximo in CMLL and during his match Konley took a bad spill to the outside on a dive when his feet got hung up in the ropes.
– Somehow The Bravados got Dragon Gate Rules thrown out for the tag match and it ended up being a DQ when Moose interfered in the match. Who the hell is Moose? He’s actually a former NFL offensive lineman named Quinn Ojinnaka. He played for the Atlanta Falcons primarily and was a star at Syracuse. He was trained by Curtis Hughes aka Mr. Hughes and just started training in wrestling in 2012, he’s about 6’5″, 290 lbs. or he was during his football days.
– The 3-Way was an elimination match and Mr. A was put into the match by Tony Nese.
– AR Fox & Gulak was said to be the best match on the card.
– Gargano/Baretta was said to have been very good as well.
– CIMA was originally scheduled to face Gargano for the belt but the day before the show DG-USA put out a press release saying that CIMA would be unable to compete due to a lingering back injury, pretty crappy thing to do the day before the show especially considering CIMA was the only big Dragon Gate star advertised for the shows.

8) EVOLVE Title: Chris Hero def. AR Fox (c) to win the title!
9) Open the Freedom Gate Title: Johnny Gargano (c) def. Roderick Strong to retain the title!
* NOTES *
– Trent Barreta was shown watching the Hero/Fox match in the crowd. Hero got the win with a Dragon Sleeper to capture his first post-WWE championship. Baretta got on the mic after the match and started running down Hero. He said that Claudio Castagnolli (Antonio Cesaro) is headlining a WWE PPV tonight and that could have been Hero had he “would ever eat a damn salad.” Tony Nese & Mr. A then attacked Hero with Fox trying to help Hero out, but Caleb Konley ran out and attacked him as well joining the Premier Athlete Brand.
– Rich Swann walked out during the Main Event and invited alot of the fans to come and stand ringside surrounding the ring in a unique moment. Gargano forced Strong to tap to the “GargaNO Escape” and then after the match said that booing him was like booing a kid with cancer because his belt cures cancer (damn). Swann took the microphone and said that he invited the fans to surround ringside so Gargano couldn’t punk out and run. He said that he’s going to kick Gargano’s ass in New Orleans during Mania weekend.
