8/13 Smackdown: Four quality matches

Dustin Holland reviews WWE Smackdown for 8/13/15

WWE Smackdown Review

This week won’t be too hard to handle due to the fact that there were only FOUR matches. Four matches in a two hour show means a whole lot of filler and not so much on the wrestling action. I will admit though, for what we did get to see of actual in ring action it was really enjoyable this week. I liked watching four quality matches this week as opposed to watching two decent ones and three that lack anything close to prime in-ring action.

The main event was one of the best in a long time, with all parties involved being equally showcased instead of focusing on one storyline. This week was all about starting that final push that will be this summer’s biggest show in SummerSlam. Looking ahead, I am excited to see what next week’s show will bring us. Usually the Smackdown before a PPV is way more watchable than a regular weekly show.

Diva Revolution Continues

For all the hate I have given to this so called revolution, I was ready to just wash this first match out and move on to the rest of the night. THIS TIME, I was glad I actually watched. Both Divas actually maintained good ring presence and provided an entertaining match. The timing was there with no hiccups that I could remember. More wrestling and less prancing around is what would provide for an actual Diva Revolution and maybe this was a start. The fact that it was a one on one match might have helped it out also with limited interference from the outside.

Reigning on Wyatt’s Parade

First off let me say that Luke Harper was really impressive in the ring during this match. I noticed one hiccup when he ducked down before Reigns came off the ropes way too early, but besides that he looked really good. Reigns is just biding his time until that final push comes. His matches are the same thing every week. He uses the same four moves over and over again and it leads to mediocrity in the ring. I am looking to SummerSlam and hoping that Ambrose turns heel so he can be utilized more this fall. An Ambrose vs. Reigns feud could help both men in the long run.

Tagging In

The quality of tag team action is something I have been raving about since I began doing this. The arrival of future tag teams will hopefully further strengthen an already great core. These four teams that are battling at SummerSlam put on another great showing Thursday hyping up the fatal four way that is coming in two weeks. The Prime Time Players run as champs could soon be over as The New Day is primed to take the titles back. What do you guys think? Who will come out of SummerSlam with the titles?

Future is Now

The main event featured four superstars who are primed and ready to take over the main roster as its core group. These four superstars put on a heck of a show Thursday. All of them were showcased and the outcome of the match predetermined a matchup at SummerSlam with Kevin Owens now facing Cesaro. This match has the makings to be one of those epic 30 minute matches, which would be good seeing as they have four hours to fill. These guys are proving every week that the future is coming, but can the WWE big wigs handle it the way it needs to be handled?

Quick Thoughts

* Promo City- I covered all the matches so here is all that’s left. This show was a giant infomercial for the WWE Network and SummerSlam with some matches and promos built in.

Favorite Moment of the Night: Dean Ambrose interrupting Bray Wyatt’s promo just to say, “I don’t have anything to say.” That was golden!

Least Favorite Moment of the Night: Sheamus promo. The guy is awful! He is trying to be witty and it just doesn’t work. He will never be a quality champion even as a heel. He is a Triple H guy and that’s all there is to it. He will be around whether we like it or not.
