Lots of Lucha Underground News

This week’s Wrestling Observer had a ton of new info on Lucha Underground and season two. It was suggested that they are possibly going to do a Sci-Fi movie with the roster and crew, and that a live event tour may happen in 2016. Former TNA Knockout Alissa Flash/Cheerleader Melissa, who has a good deal of history in Lucha, will be working for Lucha Underground in season two as the sister of Marty The Moth. The tapings for season two are scheduled to be 11/14, 11/15, 11/21, 11/22, 12/12, 12/13, 01/09, 01/10, 01/16, 01/17, 01/30, and 01/31 from The Temple.

Flamita Officially with AAA

This week it was revealed that Flamita/Fireball has officially joined AAA, I think at this point it would be dubious (at best) to suggest ANYONE is under a contract, as he made a statement to fans that he would have to pull himself from a CaraLucha event because of his joining AAA and being needed elsewhere. Flamita was scheduled for what would have likely been a wild 4-Way with Caristico and CMLL’s Hechicero and Barbaro Cavernario. CMLL star Angel de Oro will take Flamita’s place and Flamita will now be appearing at the AAA/ZZInc. event that night. Flamita is expected to join Lucha Underground this season.

Perro Aguayo Jr. Voted into Observer Hall of Fame

This week Dave Meltzer revealed the names being inducted into the 2015 Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame and Perro Aguayo Jr. was announced as one of the stars being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Perrito will join Brock Lesnar, Shinsuke Nakamura, The Assassins, Ivan Koloff, Carlos Colon, and Eddie Quinn as this year’s class.

Angelico vs. Evans Replaces Drago vs. Pentagon in Canada

This week Canadian promotion Smash Wrestling announced that they were replacing the scheduled Pentagon Jr. vs. Drago match on their 11/07 “3rd Anniversary Show” card with a Jack Evans vs. Angelico match because of Visa issues Smash Wrestling issued a statement saying that they had arranged for both luchadors to have Canadian work visas issued and those visas were ready to be picked up at the beginning of October, but AAA’s representatives never bothered to inform Drago or Pentagon to pick them up. Because of this they attempted to get the visas this week, when they were informed of the issue, but were told that it would take a minimum of three days to get the visas meaning that they would no longer be allowed to appear. AAA has sent Angelico and Evans as last minute replacements. The weird thing is that Pentagon was being advertised elsewhere for that night and appeared at the other show.

Alberto-AAA Update

A week ago it seemed that Alberto del Rio would be finishing out his dates with AAA but this week WWE announced Alberto for RAW this Monday and the upcoming European tour (which will be during the upcoming ZZInc. tour in Mexico as well as a couple of AAA dates he was announced for) so it seemed as if Alberto would not appear in AAA again. Then, this weekend AAA announced that they would be postponing the TV Taping for Sunday (which Alberto was announced for) so it seems as though Alberto may be able to make the show (if WWE allows him) with it being pushed back.

Brothers Match Added to RCH Event

This week Indy promotion announced a special tag team match pitting brother teams against each other with Fenix & Pentagon Jr. will be teaming up to face Texano Jr. and his brother Super Nova on a 12/03 event in Arena Naucalpan. I think this may be the first time Fenix and Pentagon have actually tagged with each other since 2012 when Pentagon was still known as Dark Dragon. They’ve faced each other a ton of times of the years but they very rarely have teamed with each other over the years. When Fenix and Pentagon first came to AAA they made a name for themselves in matches against each other.

First Names for 2016 FantasticaMania Announced

This week CMLL announced the first official names of luchadors that will be appearing on January’s FantasticaMania tour in Japan. The first two names were the legendary Atlantis and 2015 En Busca de un Idolo winner Bobby Z who will be making his debut in Japan. The rest of the names should be announced in the next few weeks.

Sombra to WWE?

On this week’s MLW Podcast Konnan claimed that Alberto del Rio told him that WWE was signing La Sombra, but nothing has been said elsewhere about this. Sombra has done at least one try out with WWE in the last year.

Dorada & Ricochet In Japan

CMLL’s Mascara Dorada’s current run in New Japan Pro Wrestling continued this month as he took part in the Super Juniors Tag Team Tournament teaming with Ryusuke Taguchi. The two lost their opening round match against The Young Bucks, who made it to the Semifinals. Dorada went on to have a lot of success on the tour mostly teaming with a variation of other teams in the Super Juniors Tournament in eight-man tag team matches. Lucha Underground’s Prince Puma (Ricochet) was also in the tournament teaming with former WWE star Matt Sydal in the tournament. They defeated the Time Splitters (Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA) in the opening round and then The Young Bucks in the Semifinals. Ricochet & Sydal ended up winning the tournament, defeating Roppongi Vice (Trent Beretta & Rocky Romero) in the Finals. The Semifinals was surprisingly an All-American Semifinals with all four teams hailing from America. The teams were Sydal & Ricochet, The Young Bucks, Roppongi Vice, and ROH’s reDRagon (Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish). The only Japanese stars in the entire tournament were Tiger Mask IV, Taguchi, KUSHIDA, and Jushin Thunder Liger. All of their teams lost in the opening round.

– Mascara Dorada, Ryusuke Taguchi, & Time Splitters (Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA) def. Chase Owens & The Bullet Club (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, & Nick Jackson) (10/23)

– Super Junior Tag Tournament First Round: The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) def. Mascara Dorada & Ryusuke Taguchi (10/24)

CMLL/NJPW Deal Blocks ROH Stars Going to AAA

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Dave Meltzer claimed that New Japan has asked Ring of Honor to stop allowing and sending stars to AAA because of NJPW’s relationship with CMLL. ROH has sent stars like ACH and Moose in the past to work for AAA and Roderick Strong was supposed to appear on the AAA/ZZInc. tour this month but has been since pulled from the cards. The Observer also says that ROH would like to start working with CMLL to bring in stars from CMLL as well as send ROH wrestlers to CMLL. This is very unlikely as CMLL seems about as clueless about American wrestling as possible these days, but they have had a working relationship with TNA in the past even trading talent at different times so it isn’t out of the question that ROH could possibly strike a deal at some point especially considering CMLL’s strong relationship with NJPW. ROH’s relationship doesn’t seem quite as strong, especially considering Jushin Thunder Liger just appeared for WWE last month, but it is still a possibility.

* NOTES *

– Rush (for Sombra) and Valiente (for Volador) interfered repeatedly in the second fall and were ejected from ringside. Volador pinned Sombra clean in the third fall and then Sombra started to cut a promo saying how much he respected Volador. Rush and Mascara then ran out and attacked Volador and Rush reminded Sombra that they respect no one. Sombra and Rush got in each other’s faces and Mascara got in between them before anything could happen. Rush and Sombra seemed to make up and give each other a fist bump, but then Rush took the NWA belt from Volador and tried to give it to Sombra. Sombra refused to take it and walked away from his boys.

* NOTES *

– Main Event was supposed to be Sombra & Volador against Rush & Mascara, but earlier in the week CMLL swapped Mascara and Mistico on the card for some reason. Volador and Sombra argued the entire match and the only time Sombra and Rush fought each other was late in the third fall. Rush ended up fouling Sombra while the referee was down and then as the referee was recovering Sombra responded by fouling Rush which led to the DQ. After the match Volador threw a drink in Mistico’s face and then Rush and Sombra hugged after the match. They said they are the two best luchadors in CMLL and they should fight to see who is the best which will happen next week.

* NOTES *

– The finish to the Main Event was a huge disaster. It came down to Golpeador and Golden Magic with those two fighting on the side of the cage. Golpeador actually fell off the cage while he was swinging at Golden and he tried to pull Golden down with him as he fell, but Golpeador hit the floor first. Since the match was escape rules this should have meant that Golpeador won but the finish was supposed to be Golden Magic going over. Despite the fact that Golpeador clearly hit the floor first he was announced as the loser and eventually unmasked. It looked really awful.
