AAA/LUCHA UNDERGROUND

Perro Aguayo Sr. Speaks on Son for the First Time
This past week Perro Aguayo Sr. spoke publicly about the death of his son, Perro Aguayo Jr., last year. An emotional Perro, who is not in great shape himself these days due to all of the injuries he suffered during his career, said, “I gave my life, my effort, everything to lucha libre, and lucha libre took the most important thing, my son, from me,” in one of the more heart wrenching comments. He also said that he hasn’t spoken publicly about the situation before because he didn’t know how to describe the hurt he was feeling.

Pentagon Jr. In Cleveland
This weekend AAA/Lucha Underground star Pentagon Jr. faced off with ROH’s Raymond Rowe in an exciting match for the AIW promotion. Rowe won the match following a Powerbomb. The match was said to have been terrific.

Konnan-AAA Split Coming
For months Konnan has been speaking out publicly about his issues with AAA and has been teasing that he will “expose” the promotion soon. He did not appear for Lucha Underground at all for the season two tapings and has not even been an agent at AAA events since November. He and AAA announcer Arturo Rivera got into a massive Twitter war last week. Rivera claimed that Konnan is forming his own promotion with a bunch of friends and Monterrey based television network Multimedios funding it. Rivera also claimed AAA star Garza Jr. was a big part of this thing. Garza Jr. has publicly denied it and asked Rivera not to put his name in these rumors. Konnan has been saying that he will be making some huge announcements, and exposing AAA, at a press conference soon, and for histories sake he did very similar things in the 90’s at a press conference when he ripped AAA/Atonio Pena and announced the forming of Promo Azteca with TV Azteca. Rivera is obviously someone in the know and it sounds like he has some pretty good knowledge on things that he has heard but it is also possible he is just taking rumors that he has heard and putting them out there as fact and accusing Konnan of being a traitor. Konnan has very publicly admitted he is definitely working on a “new project” and others, like Masked Republic, have teased AAA stars jumping soon as well. It is very unlikely that any of the Lucha Underground guys are going to be able to or willing to make that jump but that still leaves a huge chunk of the AAA roster. With All-Elite getting a new TV deal and more possible talent raids from them, and now this it could be devastating for AAA.

Cage Taking Part in Liga Elite
It was revealed this weekend that Lucha Underground star Brian Cage will be taking part in the 03/20 All-Elite event as a part of the Liga Elite Tournament, which means he is likely booked for future shows as well. This is interesting because AAA has prevented its wrestlers and Lucha Underground’s wrestlers from appearing on All-Elite events due to the relationship between All-Elite and CMLL. Cage is not leaving Lucha Underground, it seems, but hasn’t been booked in AAA for several months so it looks like Lucha Underground is not preventing their stars, that don’t also work for AAA, from appearing for All-Elite anymore. Cage will face CMLL’s Rush at the 03/30 event for the first time ever in what should be an awesome match. Another interesting note is that an Indy in Texas had been advertising several Lucha Underground stars for an event there this weekend, but all of them except Cage were pulled from that show. CMLL/All Elite’s Caristico, former Lucha Underground star Hernandez, and former AAA star Laredo Kid were added to the show as replacements. That will be Caristico’s first appearence in America since he left WWE.

Lucha Underground 03/15 “Austin Warfare” Austin, TX Results
1) Fatal 4-Way: Pentagon Jr. def. Aerostar, Son of Havoc, & Drago
2) Fenix def. Mil Muertes
3) Ivelisse Velez def. Taya Valkyrie
4) Rey Misterio Jr., Prince Puma, & Cage def. John Morrison, PJ Black, & Jack Evans
* NOTES *
– In the opener Pentagon shoved Aerostar off the table sending him through a table, but Aerostar came back and did an insane dive off of a second story balcony. Pentagon got the win with a Package Piledriver on Drago. Aerostar was thought to be seriously hurt on the dive but just got a bloody nose and a sore back. He was taken to the hospital as a “precaution” but was fine.
– Vampiro came out and talked about how great the opener was and said he needed a beer after all that action. His “doctor” came out and said that SXSW was full of violence and alcohol and Vampiro needs neither. He brought out some “mental health professionals” to take him away but Vampiro Double Chokeslamed them and then hit the Nail In The Coffin on the doctor.
– Fenix pinned Muertes in a Non-Title Shot to earn a “future title shot”, he got a shot this week on TV. Muertes destroyed Fenix with a guitar after the match.
– The tecnicos hit a Triple 619 on the rudos in the Main Event for the win.

CMLL

All-Elite Lands Huge TV Deal
This week CMLL’s sister promotion, All-Elite, landed a massive TV deal for itself with Azteca7. The television network is an “over the air station” that every single TV in Mexico receives, even on rabbit ears, and it will run Friday nights at 6:00 PM starting 04/01. The weird thing is that this TV deal is even better than any of the TV deals CMLL has itself but they will obviously benefit greatly from this considering they are helping fund All-Elite and the majority of the roster is made up of CMLL stars. Because of this deal it has started even more rumors about potential jumps from AAA but nothing has been confirmed yet. Brian Cage has already been confirmed for that first 03/30 taping for the 04/01 debut.

– Oddly in the Main Event Mephisto was in Negro’s corner rathern than one of the many Casas family members, even though it has been a Parka/Volaor family vs. Casas family rivalry the entire time. Flyer, Volador’s nephew, was in Volador’s corner. Match was excellent and Volador pinned Casas clean in the third fall with a Reverse Rana Driver.
