Becky Lynch returns at SummerSlam, wins WWE SmackDown Women’s Title

Becky Lynch returns at SummerSlam

During WWE SummerSlam on Saturday, Becky Lynch made her surprise return to WWE. Lynch defeated Belair to become the new WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Below is the excerpt from Mike Tedesco’s SummerSlam recap on how it all went down:

Greg Hamilton says that Sasha Banks is not here this evening. Bianca Belair will now defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Carmella. Wow…

Bianca Belair says Sasha Banks isn’t happening tonight, but sooner or later they’ll be in the ring and she’ll wipe the floor with her dusty self.

Becky Lynch makes her way to the ring to a huge ovation! Lynch looks like she’s dressed to compete. A “Becky” chant fires up as she stands in the ring.

Lynch attacks Carmella and sends her out of the ring. Lynch says to Belair that she’ll be back. Lynch goes outside and sends Carmella into the ring steps.

Lynch gets in the ring and stares at Belair. The crowd is absolutely buzzing. Lynch looks around Allegiant Stadium and asks for a microphone. Lynch says maybe it’s time the EST and The Man blow the roof off this joint for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Belair agrees!

The bell rings, and Lynch punches her in the face. Lynch connects with a Manhandle Slam for the win!

Lynch had been away from WWE after relinquishing the Raw Women’s Title to Asuka back in May 2020, when she announced she was pregnant.  Lynch and her then-fiance Seth Rollins welcomed their first child on December 4. The couple married back on June 29, 2021.

There’s no word at this time as to why Banks missed SummerSlam. Banks and Belair missed last weekend’s live events due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
