Elisah Spencer, the man who attacked Seth Rollins during Monday night’s fallout WWE Raw at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, spoke with The New York Daily News.
Spencer said in the interview that he was the victim of a catfishing scam by an individual on social media posing as Rollins.
Spencer also he “wanted to settle a beef going back to 2019”, which was from the catfishing scam, and wanted to help Finn Balor, who Rollins is feuding with on Raw.
Spencer further said he had a legitimate beef, but as a grown man he could have settled things differently. He said he has apologized to WWE, and if he saw Rollins today, he wouldn’t attack him and that he has “moved on.”
Spencer said he first met Rollins at a meet and greet event a few years back, where he asked Rollins to help him start a professional wrestling career. Spencer then began to communicate with what was a fake Seth Rollins on WhatsApp and other social media accounts. Spencer was convinced he was interacting with the real Seth Rollins, with what led to Spencer getting scammed.
“He was asking me to send him gift cards in exchange for money, mostly $500 or more to see if I was loyal…he asked me to be a wrestling blogger for him. I wanted to work my way up.”
Spencer said he purchased around $3,000 in gift cards, but the check that the fake Seth Rollins sent to him bounced.
Spencer said he was communicating with “Rollins” through social media accounts under his WWE in-ring name and his real name of Colby Lopez. He was also blocked on social media by Becky Lynch, the real life wife of the real Seth Rollins.
Spencer posted chat transcripts between himself and the fake Seth Rollins to his Instagram account after Monday’s Raw incident, but none proved he was actually talking to the real WWE Superstar.
Spencer wrote the following in an exchange with the fake Rollins, “All your true fans love you a lot and and the ones that are fake fans will be fake fans…I am a real fan of yours.”
Spencer also said he had plans to help out Finn Balor. “My plan was to help Finn Balor. I’m a fan…I like his aura, his attitude. I like everything about his charisma. I like everything about him. I jumped from where I was sitting at. I ran and speared Seth Rollins. I busted his lip open and he caught me in a headlock. I broke the headlock and I was trying to get him, then the referees and the security guards broke us apart.”
Also as per the report from the New York Daily News, Spencer is 5-foot-4 inches and 180 pounds. He purchased a front row seat to WWE Raw, but appears he did not actually sit at ringside.
The New York Police Department charged Spencer with with attempted assault, and attempted violation of arts & cultural affairs. He was given a desk appearance ticket to appear in court on a future date, and then released.
