TripleMania Regia will air on FITE, new main event announced

AAA LuchaLibre Worldwide announced today that its upcoming “TripleManiaRegia” event will be broadcast international on FITE on Dec. 4.

This news comes after months of AAA being unable to air any of its content outside of Mexico due to a lawsuit between AAA and LuchaLibre FMV (the former owners of Lucha Underground) over the international rights of AAA content. Still, the full event will still be unavailable for international audiences.

According to a release from AAA, the top four matches from the event will be streamed on FITE, while the rest of the card will be only for the live audience. The Latin American TV network SPACE will also air the same four matches and then later will air the rest of the card as a regular episode of AAA’s weekly TV show on the network.

The event will cost $20 to stream on FITE and will include English and Spanish commentary tracks. AAA did not announce the English commentary team but in the past Matt Striker and Vampiro have been among the commentators. AAA’s connection with AEW may mean that one – or more of their commentators – gets involved.

While AAA did not comment on its ongoing litigation, the assumption that some resolution has likely been reached for AAA to make this announcement. It comes at a frustrating time for AAA, however, as AEW ‘s Kenny Omega was forced to vacate the AAA Mega Campeonato (Mega Championship) earlier this week due to upcoming surgeries.

Omega’s scheduled title defense against Hijo del Vikingo has been changed to a 5-Way Match that will peat Vikingo, former WWE star Samuray del So (fka Kalisto), AEW’s Jay Lethal and two more names to be announced.

The rest of the card that will air on FITE includes former UFC star Cain Velasquez in his return to the wrestling ring as he teams with AAA stars Pagano and Psycho Clown in a trios against the legendary L.A. Park and his team of Impact star Black Taurus and Rey Escorpion.
Velasquez made his wrestling debut with AAA, teaming with Cody Rhodes and Psycho Clown at TripleMania XXVII in 2019. Velasquez would go on to work another match at the AAA’s “Lucha Invades NY” event at Madison Square Garden later that year, as well. He would then agree to a match in WWE with Brock Lesnar. An injury – and then the COVID-19 pandemic – put a halt to anymore appearance sin WWE and he was released from his contract in 2020. He made a return to AAA back in October. His match at “TripleManiaRegia” will be his first match since 2019.

Also, AEW stars FTR will defend the AAA Tag Team Championships against The Lucha Brothers. The Psycho Circus trio of Monster Clown, Murder Clown and Dave The Clown will face off against Diamante Azul, Puma King and Sam Adonis.

With those four matches being the only ones airing on FITE, that means the tag team match of ROH’s Dragon Lee and former CMLL star Dralistico (the former Mistico II) against Laredo Kid and a mystery partner will not air on the stream. According to LuchaBlog, Samuray del Sol was expected to be Laredo Kid’s partner in this match, so his inclusion in the new Main Event could mean Dragon Lee and/or Dralistco are added to it, as well. Dragon Lee is likely a name that AAA wants to use to sell to international audiences.

*UPDATE*
Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer has confirmed that Impact Wrestling’s Matt Striker will be one of the English-language commentators. Also, AEW star Bobby Fish has officially been named as the fourth participant in the Main Event. The fifth and final name is expected to be announced in the coming days.
