Top star in AEW said to be working without a current contract

F4WOnline is reporting that AEW and Cody Rhodes are currently working on a new for Rhodes to stay with the company.

According to a new report by Fightful, AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes is said to be working without a current contract.

The report notes that Rhodes’ AEW contract expired at the end of 2021, thus making him a free agent.

It was was further indicated that there are several in AEW that are aware of Rhodes’ contract status.

Rhodes is scheduled to return to AEW on this Wednesday’s Dynamite live from Washington, DC, as he has been temporarily absent from the company to a medical issue.

He was originally scheduled to defend the TNT Championship against Sammy Guevara in a rematch at Battle of The Belts special back on January 8. Guevara ended up defeating Dustin Rhodes to become the Interim AEW TNT Champion.

In an interview last month with Sports Illustrated, Rhodes said the following about his future with AEW:

“As of now, my future is with AEW. AEW would be very strange without the core members of the revolution. We (the EVP’s) all still talk. We all have this admiration for each other. I can’t see myself anywhere else, and I’m very optimistic about what the future holds.
