Just over a month after being released by WWE, former NXT 2.0 Superstar Troy “Two Dimes” Donovan, under his previous in-ring name of Cole Karter, returned to AEW on Saturday. He took part in the Dark tapings held at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL.
Karter was part of the first set of television tapings, defeating Mike Orlando. He previously wrestled nine times for AEW in 2021 in singles, tag team and trios matches. The match he had on Saturday was his first win in AEW.
Under the Troy “Two Dimes” Donovan in NXT 2.0, he was part of The D’Angelo Family along with Tony D’Angelo and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo. WWE released Karter back on June 11 reportedly due to a policy issue. However, Karter was told he could be brought back to WWE in a year.
Karter will also be appearing at the IWC show in Washington, Pennsylvania, on Sunday.
Karter never specified what the policy issue was that led to his release, but took to Twitter shortly after his release thanking those who reached out, and said that “Mistakes happen and lessons are learned.”
