Update on recent report that AEW was asked by TBS/TNT to tone down the language

According to a recent report from F4WOnline, Warner Warner Bros Discovery has asked AEW to cut back on the usage of profanities in its television shows.

Dave Meltzer had stated that the word to AEW from Warner Bros. Discovery that they’d like the “language toned down” going forward.

Per a new report from Fightful Select, sources at Warner Bros Discovery told them (Fightful) they feel AEW’s current TV programming has made “no negative waves,” and that Tony Khan has held up their end of the deal in terms of ratings success.

AEW sources told Fightful Select they believe the quote made to F4Wonline was taken out of context, which came out of the recent talent meeting held before this past Wednesday’s Dynamite. The sources clarified to FIghtful that the point stressed at the meeting was that talent could get heat from either TBS or TNT if they “flew too close to the sun” as it pertains to language. It was further noted to Fightful that neither the network has issued an official edict about strong language on AEW television.

It was also said that Warner Bros Discovery is also pleased with how AEW has handled cross-promotions with such as “House of the Dragon” and “Shark Week.” Furthermore, Fightful notes there is no adversarial relationship between the two sides. Sources also confirmed to Fightful that a recent internet rumor about AEW’s flagship show Dynamite being cut to down to one hour was false.

AEW is under contract with Warner Bros Discovery through 2023, with a one-year option available in the deal for the network to pick up AEW in 2024.
