Nick Wayne to debut on AEW Dynamite this July

DEFY Wrestling’s Nick Wayne will make his AEW debut during the July 12th AEW Dynamite, just days after his 18th birthday.

Wayne will square off against Swerve Strickland.

According to several sources, Wayne defeated Strickland at Saturday night’s DEFY Wrestling event, to become to new DEFY Champion. The show was held at the historic Washington Hall in Seattle, WA.

It was said that after the match, Strickland called his shot for a match at the July 12 AEW Dynamite taking place at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Wayne and Strickland are 1-1 in their series so far. As of this writing, this match will not be for the DEFY Championship.

Wayne is the son of the late wrestler and trainer Buddy Wayne. He signed a contract with AEW in February 2022, after AEW star Darby Allin made an appearance and Wayne with the contract at a DEFY event in Seattle.

At the time, several sources reported the deal was more of an apprenticeship as Wayne at the time was only 16-years-old and had to complete high school first. After turning 18, he would then become a fully contracted wrestler in AEW.

Wayne has been a regular on the independent scene and has wrestled worldwide while still making sure he graduates from high school.

He has also completed against NJPW star Will Ospreay.
