During WWE’s pre-Backlash press conference on Friday, Paul “Triple H” Levesque announced that the World Heavyweight Title Tournament will begin on this Monday’s episode of Raw.
This is the same night the new roster for the red brand will take effect following last week’s Draft.
Monday’s tournament match will consist of two triple threat matches. The winners will then go on to face each other later that same night to decide who will advance to the May 27 Night of Champions Premium Live Event in Saudi Arabia.
It was also said that two triple threat matches will take place on next Friday’s episode of SmackDown, with those winners going on to square off in that episodes main event.
The winner from SmackDown will then wrestle the winner from Raw at Night of Champions to determine the brand new World Heavyweight Champion.
As of this writing, WWE has not announced the participants for the tournament yet.
Monday’s WWE Raw will take place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, FL and next week’s WWE SmackDown will emanate from the Thompson Boling Arena in Knoxville, TN.
