Recent NXT call up to main roster said to be seen as a “Slam Dunk” by WWE officials

According to a report from Fightful Select, recent NXT call up Cameron Grimes is seen as a “slam dunk” by one longtime WWE employee, due to Grimes’s ability to work several in-ring styles. In addition, it was said that several higher ups, including Triple H, have been fans of his work and had been working on calling him up long before he was sent to SmackDown.

Fightful Select also states that WWE had plans for “months” to get Grimes put on the main roster. It was also noted that several producers have spoken highly of Grimes and his work.

Grimes made his main roster debut on the May 5 episode of SmackDown during a backstage segment with Adam Pierce. They where interrupted by Baron Corbin, who called Grimes “Mr. Irrelevant” and then challenged him to a match for the following week.

On the following week’s episode (5/12), Grimes defeated Corbin in just three seconds.

Grimes is a former NXT North American champion. Prior to signing with WWE back in 2019, he spent time in the independent scene as Trevor Lee.
