According to Fightful Select AEW, NJPW and Mercedes Mone’ were reportedly discussing about the possibility of Mone’ appearing at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on Sunday, June 25. It was said that the talks had taken place prior to Mone’s suffering a suffering an ankle injury at the NJPW Resurgence PPV event, back on Sunday, May 21.
It was also noted by Fightful Select that several sources in AEW and NJPW have said the talks regarding Mone’ may have gone as far back as January. The report concluded by saying that it is believed had Mone not sustained her injury, Mone’ vs. Saraya would have taken place at Forbidden Door II.
Saraya and Mone’ last worked a match together in WWE back in December 2017 at a house show, when Saraya was kicked in the back of the head in a botched move by Mone.’ Saraya was then forced into an earlier retirement, which ended shortly after her AEW debut at last September’s Grand Slam episode of Dynamite in Queens, New York.
In a separate report, from Fightful Select the “working plan” is for KENTA to work Forbidden Door II on Sunday, June 25.
Fightful Select also noted there is no confirmation at the time of their report if a there has been a finalized deal in place to have KENTA appear on the pay-per-view. However, it was further stated AEW and NJPW are said to be presently working under the assumption that KENTA will be wrestling in some capacity on the show.
The report concluded by saying that AEW and NJPW are looking at CM Punk as a possible opponent for KENTA, who is the current NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion.
KENTA and Punk have been in an ongoing feud over each using the GTS as their finishing move. After AEW CEO, President and GM Tony Khan announced on the May 31 Dynamite that Punk would be returning to AEW at the premiere of Collision in Chicago on Saturday, KENTA called out Punk on Twitter, saying that he is free that night.
