Santos Escobar has earned a future title shot at the WWE United States Championship, currently held by Austin Theory.
The match between Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar on Friday night’s WWE SmackDown was stopped by the referee due to injury to Mysterio.
Escobar hit a suicide dive on Mysterio, who then hit his head hard on the ringside mat. Rey was checked by referee Jessika Carr and WWE officials. It was at this point Carr then made the decision to stop the match and award the win to Escobar.
After the match result was made official by Carr, Mysterio was up and moving. He then embraced Escobar.
