Matt Riddle announces he has been released by WWE

Matt Riddle has announced on social media that he is no longer with WWE.

Riddle last competed back on the September 4 episode of WWE Raw, teaming with Drew McIntyre.

Riddle was pulled from WWE programming after he went on Instagram and accused a Port Authority officer at JFK airport of sexual harassment. He later deleted the post. Following the accusations, it was reported that Port Authority officers at the airport had received a call for a disorderly person who was deplaning. Officers then met the person in question at the terminal, which turned out to be Riddle. Soon after Riddle’s accusations, Port Authority Officials announced they had began an internal investigation.

Last December Riddle had reportedly failed a WWE drug test and was sent to rehab. WWE wrote him off television back on the December 4 episode of Raw, where he was taken out by Solo Sikoa of The Bloodline. WWE did then did a segment showing him being taken away in an ambulance. He would then make a surprise return on the April 3, 2023 episode of Raw.

Back in the Summer of 2020, female independent wrestler Candy Cartwright (real name Samantha Tavel) accused Riddle of sexually assaulting her. Tavel stated that during a 2018 van ride with other wrestlers, after everyone else in the vehicle had fallen asleep, Riddle sexually assaulted her. She filed a lawsuit in October 2020, but then dropped it all dropped the suit in July 2021. Her attorney John Chwarzynski told TMZ at the time that “The parties have put this in their past and are focused on the future.”

After spending four years on the independent scene, Riddle signed a deal with WWE in 2018. He was part of the NXT roster until 2020 when he was joined Raw in October of that same year, as part of the draft.

The 37-year old Riddle is a former WWE United States Champion, WWE Raw Tag Team Champion with Randy Orton, and an NXT Tag Team Champion with Butch (Pete Dunne). Prior to his WWE career, he was an MMA fighter from 2008 to 2014, having competed in UFC, Bellator MMA and Titan FC.
