Backstage details on the return of top star at AEW Double or Nothing

Former AEW World Champion MJF made his return to AEW at Sunday’s Double or Nothing, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

MJF attacked Adam Cole who was already in the ring. During his promo, MJF confirmed his new deal with AEW is long-term, showing off a new AEW tattoo.

Fightful Select is reporting that plans were made well ahead of Double or Nothing for him to make his return to the company.

The report notes that in recent weeks, MJF wore a brace on his shoulder as a way to “throw off” those people who would have expected him to return. It is not known if MJF underwent shoulder surgery. MJF was legitimately injured heading into his title defense at the Worlds End pay-per-view back on December 30, 2023. MJF dropped the AEW World Championship to Samoa Joe, ending the longest reign as a world champion in the company at a record 406 days

Fightful Select further notes that there are significant creative plans for MJF to be in a top program immediately now that he has returned to AEW.
