Fightful Select has reported new insight on what led to the AEW World Championship match being booked between Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay.
Per the report, speculation that Strickland’s title reign was “just a setup” for Ospreay to win at the All In pay-per-view led to the AEW International Champion speaking to AEW executives, saying he wanted to help Swerve “look good” in his current reign with the title won from Samoa Joe at AEW Dynasty.
The decision was reportedly made after Ospreay won the International Championship at Double Or Nothing, to show that even top wrestlers should lose to the World Champion sometimes.
Despite the early speculation of a clash between Strickland and Ospreay at All In at Wembley Stadium, sources have indicated that this was never the plan with both men having other matches scheduled for the event.
