Titles change hands on 4/16 AEW Dynamite; Tony Khan confirms signing

The Opps are the new AEW World Trios Champions.

During Wednesday’s Dynamite Spring Break Thru episode, Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs substituting for Hook, defeated The Death Riders (Wheeler Yuta, Claudio Catagnoli and Jon Moxley), to become new champions. The finish saw Joe choke out Moxley with the Coquina Clutch to secure the win. There were also run-ins by Swerve Strickland, Willow Nightingale and the Young Bucks during the match.

AEW did an angle at the top of Dynamite, announcing that the Death Riders has attacked Hook before the show, thus taking him out of the match.

Hook’s father Taz was not on commentary for the show, as it was explained that he was had went to the hospital with his son following the attack. It is not clear if this angle was done to cover up a legitimate injury or illness, as Hook was seen vomiting in the ring on last week’s show.

Tony Khan confirmed the official signing of Josh Alexander who was the wild card opponent for Hangman Page in Owen Hart Cup Tournament.

Alexander had previously stated that when his TNA Wrestling deal expired, he was going to explore the free agent market.

The show aired live from the MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, Massachusetts.

Wednesday’s episode was No. 289, making it the longest-running primetime pro wrestling show on TBS or TNT, surpassing WCW Nitro which was at 288 when the final show aired back on March 26, 2001.
