Pat McAfee lands new film role, will play a US Marine drill instructor

According to a new report from Tadum, Pat McAfee has landed a role in the upcoming Netflix film, The Mosquito Bowl, which is from director Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Hancock).

McAfee will play the role of a United States Marine drill instructor. McAfee joins the cast of Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You), Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu), Ray Nicholson (Smile 2), and Tom Francis (You Season 5).

Per Tadum, The Mosquito Bowl is based on the real life events of four top American college football stars who set their fame aside to enlist in the Marines following the attack on Pearl Harbor. As they prepare for the brutal invasion of Okinawa, they participate in a legendary game featuring some of the greatest players in history – a game that, for many, will be their last.

Production and filming began this month in Queensland, Australia. At the time of the report, no information was given on when the film will be complete and ready to stream on Netflix.

In July 2025, McAfee announced he has has taken a temporary step back from WWE due to burnout from his very busy schedule, which included WWE, his Pat McAfee show, which airs daily and his commitments to ESPN for college football broadcasts. McAfee also said that he needed to step away from WWE to make more time for his family and get needed rest, as he began experiencing mental and physical exhaustion from what felt like a never ending travel schedule. McAfee is expected to be part of the commentary team for WWE Wrestlepalooza on September 20 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
