Update on the status of Andrade: Non-compete clause reportedly keeping him off AEW TV

Updated 10/16/25

According to a new report on Thursday morning from Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, WWE sent AEW a letter regarding Andrade and a non-compete clause.

Per Fightful, AEW reportedly believed Andrade was not under a non-compete. Sean Ross Sapp also noted on X that the situation with Andrade is very weird, also noting that even people in WWE thought Andrade was not under a non-compete.

WWE main roster talent are typically under a 90-day non-compete clause after they are released by the company. However, per various reports, he was released due to several wellness violation and disciplinary issues and he was not under a 90-day non-compete.

Fightful Select has posted an update on the whereabouts of Andrade since making his surprise return to AEW, back on the 6th Anniversary episode of Dynamite, after being released by WWE in September, in what was said to be for a wellness violation and disciplinary issues.

According to multiple sources that spoke the past with directly with Andrade said he is “in good spirits”, but did not provide an explanation as to why he has been absent from AEW programming or why he was recently pulled from scheduled appearances at independent events. It was added Andrade is indeed under contract with AEW.

Fightful Select indicates things are “exceedingly quiet” as it pertains to Andrade. However, a source familiar with the situation confirmed his absence does not appear to be a result of any issues between AEW and Andrade. The same source went on to describe the situation that Andrade’s absence may not be the fault of either side, going on to say that unavoidable circumstances could be the contributing factor for his absence from AEW programming.

The report concluded by noting that at the time of publication, there are still very few solid details regarding Andrade’s immediate future with AEW, and those close to the situation are keeping any information under wraps.

Dave Meltzer also spoke on the situation during F4WOnline TV, noting that when it comes to Andrade’s absence from AEW, he has “no answers at all.” Furthermore, Bryan Alvarez said a match that Andrade was scheduled to have against LA Park has been canceled.

Meltzer went on to day that those who know of Andrade’s situation are not willing to share any details with him.

“There’s people who know, but they’re keeping quiet. They’re not telling me, but they know. So, they forced me to speculate, which I’m not going to do. As far as I know, he’s still booked for a show on Saturday in Puerto Rico. We’ll find out if he does that show or not. He is challenging for the Universal title down there on that day.”

Back on October 3, in what was his first match since his WWE release, he dethroned DMT Azul’s, ending his almost 900 day reign as the Crash Heavyweight Champion.
