John Cena reveals new contract, was told no for 200+ dates for retirement tour

Ahead of his final match this Saturday against Gunther, in speaking with Tom Rinaldi, John Cena revealed that he has signed a five-year ambassador deal with WWE.

Speaking on his new deal with WWE:

“I will be an ambassador [for] the WWE. I’m already signed on for another five years,” he said. “I was like ‘Please, as long as you can do it.’ I would like to be in this family as an employee, as a contributing part for as long as I can.”

Cena also noted that he pitched over 200 dates for his retirement, because that is what he used to. He was turned down because WWE doesn’t do house shows any longer.

“It was also a great exercise in, just because I think it’s good, doesn’t mean that’s what we’re doing. I had this whole…I pitched “X” and specs and ‘This is what I think the projected revenue is. Not just talking WWE story out of my butt. ‘Hey, I think this is a good business plan.’ ‘That’s not our business.’ Okay, I just torch that plan. ‘This is our business. Would you like to do this?’ ‘That’d be great if I can balance this.’ What a great exercise in just because you think you have a good idea, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. It means you think it’s a good idea. It got us to here and it’s a cool spot to be in.
