Report: HIAC Match originally planned for WrestleMania 42

According to a new report from PWInisder Elite, a Hell in a Cell match was originally planned for WrestleMania 42.

The report notes the word making the rounds is the match would have been Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed Championship. However, WWE instead chose to go in a different creative direction. It was added that likely, McIntyre, who lost the title to Rhodes at last Friday’s SmackDown, will have a match against Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania. McIntyre only held the title three days shy of exactly three months, having won the title from Rhodes back on January 9 in a cage match, in Berlin as part of the Three-Stages of Hell stipulation.

Rhodes is set to defend the championship against Elimination Chamber winning Randy Orton at WrestleMania.

This would have been the fifth-ever Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania. Past Hell in A Cell matches at WrestleMania were the Undertaker vs. Big Boss Man, Undertaker vs. Triple H, Undertaker vs. Shane McMahon and Edge vs. Finn Balor.

Both Rhodes and McIntyre have Hell in a Cell experience, including respective matches against Seth Rollins and CM Punk.
