Brandon Thurston of POST Wrestling has reported that the Tony Khan-backed Base 10 was among those who placed a bid on WWE during its process of being sold in 2023. Records show that Khan bid $6.9 billion. WWE was ultimately sold to Endeavor for $9.6 billion.
The details come from previously-redacted court filings that have been opened in the wake of an ongoing shareholder lawsuit, revealing answers to the complaint originally filed in November 2023.
The bidders listed include Liberty Media and KKR, widely understood to have made offers based on prior reporting and public filings.
Although the AEW President and owner is not mentioned by name in the complaint, the connection is noted as:
Base 10 is the owner of All Elite Wrestling, a professional wrestling promotion that plainly would enjoy significant synergies with WWE.
Despite this, Base 10 is shown to be a separate entity from AEW’s parent company, Beatnik Investments LLC.
The complaint alleges that WWE ignored these other offers in favor of Endeavor’s assurance of a key role for Vince McMahon, who stepped down from WWE in the midst of allegations against the former executive chair.
