Absolute Intense Wrestling in Cleveland, Ohio is proud that a fourth alumni has entered WWE via NXT. Michael Tarver and Daniel Bryan from Season 1 as well as season 2 winner Kaval competed in AIW early in there careers as did season 4 rookie Derrick Bateman. Derrick Bateman who is Bryan’s NXT rookie on Season 4 competed in AIW for many years and was even a part of the companies inaugural event in 2005, eventually going on to win the AIW Absolute Championship in 2006 a title that is now held by Johnny Gargano.

The AIW/NXT connection

*Derrick Bateman,in AIW known as “The Deviant” Micheal Hutter competed in AIW from 2005 to 2007, after 2 years with the company he left to train at Ohio Valley Wrestling and eventually signing a developmental deal with WWE and relocating to Tampa for FCW. Bateman had numerous memorable bouts including matches against Colt Cabana,Matt “MDogg20” Cross, and even Michael Tarver during his 2 year stint with AIW. AIW is currently working on a “Best of” DVD showcasing some of Bateman’s more memorable matches early on in his career

*Daniel Bryan as Bryan Danielson has competed in AIW twice, once in 2009 right before NXT and then in June of 2010 right after his brief firing and hiatus from WWE Bryan returned to AIW his first weekend back on the Independents, both times against current AIW Absolute Champion Johnny Gargano. While obviously making his name elsewhere in wrestling, Bryan made quite an impact in his two appearances in AIW.

*Michael Tarver was an AIW roster member from 2006-2008 competing as “The Panther” Tyrone Evans he was a cornerstone of the company and had memorable bouts with Eddie Kingston,Jigsaw, and Johnny Gargano to name a few

*Kaval competed in AIW as his well known persona Low-Ki appearing in the company several times in 2006 having incredibly hard hitting contests against the likes of Sonjay Dutt and “Kano” Josh Emanuel.

KSWA FanFest To Feature Legendary Manager J.J. Dillon, An Important Challenge From Mike Malachi and Baseball Icon Lanny Frattare, Just To Name A Few Surprise

December 1, 2010
by Trapper Tom, Ring Announcer/Wrestling Journalist
In the annuals of professional wrestling, each promotion has an ultimate event, a ground-breaking presentation that has people eager for more and buzzing for weeks.

For the Keystone State Wrestling Alliance, the biggest spectacular of the year is FanFest! On Saturday, December 4, the KSWA will present its biggest of its tremendous first decade.

In addition to a bevy of matches, the KSWA will once again welcome a Guest Ring Announcer, and an unparalleled Chinese Auction. All the KSWA asks is that the Krazies bring a brand new gift for needy area children. And of course, the fans should be ready for one heck of a good time.

In 2009, Pittsburgh City Councilman Bill Peduto was the Guest Ring Announcer for the Lord Zoltan/Justin Sane match. This year, former Pittsburgh Pirate play-by-play announcer Lanny Frattare will do the honors. For 33 years, Lanny Frattare was the voice of the Pirates. It is believed that he will step into a professional wrestling ring for the first time on December 4. The entire KSWA is proud to have Mr. Frattare on board for this great event.

The Main Event of the evening features the Keystone State Wrestling Alliance’s Heavyweight Champion, The Latin Assassin, defending against frequent rival Ali Kaida. Latin has had several run ins with Ali Kaida this year and the Afghani Assault Weapon refuses to go away. In September, Kaida won the Millvale Days Battle Royal, which this year had an added incentive–the winner gets a Title Shot at FanFest. That made the event more competitive than ever and the rampaging Ali Kaida was victorious.

Meanwhile, the Latin Assassin has had a very competitive 2010. Since winning the prestigious KSWA belt in May from “The Enforcer” Shawn Blanchard, Latin has defeated a “Rogue’s Gallery” of competition, from The Blood Beast to Bobby Badfingers to Ali Kaida (in various, heavy-hitting encounters). Latin has taken on all comers, from Lord Zoltan to all members of the VIP’s. However, Latin has been dinged up, most notably an ankle injury that slowed him down enough to even float rumors that he’d have to vacate the belt (he had already undergone this indignity years ago when he was forced to give up what was then the Tri-State Championship, due to a career-threatening back injury). Instead, the resilient Latin Assassin continued to forge forward. Now this has become his most daunting task: heading the city’s most prestigious professional wrestling event in it’s 10th anniversary year.

In other action, the KSWA World Tag Team Champions–Kris Kash and Shane Starr–defend against members of the VIPs “Dr. Devastation” Lou Martin and “The Enforcer” Shawn Blanchard in the best 2 out of 3 falls. The VIPs are always lead by their “advisor” Frank Durso. To counter that influence, Kash and Starr have pulled out their own big gun–legendary wrestler and manager of the Four Horseman, James J. Dillon, to watch their backs. The VIPs are one of the most decorated stables in the history of the KSWA, and Blanchard and Martin are unequivocally the most successful incarnation of the group. Just last year they were Tag Team Champions before losing the straps to Demolition (featuring KSWA Hall of Famer Demolition Ax).

One grouping of VIP’s included Shane Starr. But shortly after Anthony Alexander shocked the KSWA Krazies and joined, Starr (who had been on a significant losing streak) was unceremoniously booted from the club. Since that time Starr has gotten into better wrestling shape and rejoined his long-time friend Kash. While still rookies the-then “Lost Boys” were considered to be the best young tag team in the KSWA. But Starr got hooked up with the VIP’s because of Frank Durso’s wooing. Now Kash and Starr are back together and better than ever. They stunned the Krazies when they announced that JJ Dillon (a long time nemesis of Frank Durso) had agreed to be in their corner for FanFest. Dillon says he is eager to return to Pittsburgh, where he has had countless fantastic memories inside the squared circle.

Next up is a match that has kinda gone under the radar since it was announced. Current Golden Triangle Champion Double-A Anthony Alexander will defend against Big Mike Malachi. The big men have battled many times before, but there is an astonishing incentive this time around. Malachi has challenged Alexander with the stipulation that he would leave the KSWA if he doesn’t capture the Golden Triangle Championship. Alexander won the GT title from Justin Sane during Millvale Days. He has since ducked all comers. Malachi says that he’s so convinced that he’d win this “battle of the big men” that he is willing to put his career on the line. So compelling is Big Mike’s story that KSWA Owner Bobby O says that if Alexander “no shows” this match like he did his scheduled defense against Alex Arcadian, Double-A will be stripped of the Golden Triangle Championship.

The rivalry between Alex Arcadian and his former friend “Vicious” Vinnie Stone will come to a head at FanFest. The feud has been well documented: Stone was tag team partners with Ric Rumsky before he attacked his former partner. Arcadian was friends with both, has had to battle back from various injuries, and is now ready to seek revenge for Rumsky. Stone says he’s ready to move on from both “friends” and carve his own path of destruction in the KSWA.

The Blood Beast and Lord Zoltan will wrestle in tag team competition against the pairing of Mitch Napier and Bobby Badfingers. This match features strength and experience on one team, technical prowess and brute force on the other.

KSWA Owner Bobby O has just announced a 6-Man Gauntlet Match featuring The Great Toyota, Tony Johnson, Jay Flash, J.P. Goulet and Drew Belanger, and The Jester. Johnson and Flash have paired together, as have Goulet and Belanger. However, this time around it’s a “every man for himself” gauntlet. The Jester and Great Toyota add to what promises to be an interesting dynamic.

And in a “Fatal Four way” Match, “King” Del Douglas, Biker Al, “The Drunken Luchadore” Joey Quervo and rookie Mike Buda will provide great action. Del Douglas has had his ups and downs since losing the Golden Triangle Championship (his reign was among the best that title has ever had), Biker Al is always crafty, Quervo has a mystery in that he will look like he’s ready to move up the ladder of competition one match, then get buried the next, and Mike Buda continues to improve with every outing.

KSWA FanFest is Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Home of Professional Wrestling in Pittsburgh the Lawrenceville Moose, 120 51st St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201. Bell time is 7:30 p.m. All tickets for FanFest are $5. The KSWA asks that each fan bring at least one new, un-wrapped present for donation to Allegheny County’s Holiday Toy Drive. Card is subject to change.
