COLE-CALLIHAN MEET IN FIRST ROUND OF ECWA SUPER 8 APR 30th IN A CZW BOTB X FINALS REMATCH

Following his loss to Adam Cole in the finals of the CZW Best of the Best X Tournament Saturday night, April 9th in Philadelphia at the former ECW Arena, “New Horror” Sami Callihan was understandably upset. Callihan, coming off of wins at recent tournaments such as the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup in 2010 and the wXw 16 karat Cup in Germany in 2011, went into the BOTB with all of the confidence in the world. Cole, who won the World-1 Hashimoto Memorial Cup 2010 and was voted as the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Rookie of the Year 2010, achieved the most important win in his young career, while at the same time killing Callihan’s momentum going into the 15th Annual ECWA Super 8 Tournament on April 30th. To make matters worse, Cole is a crowd favorite at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, New Jersey, which will host this year’s Super 8.

In reaction to Saturday’s loss, Callihan made a bold challenge for the Super 8, to meet Adam Cole in the first round! After consultation yesterday, both ECWA Commissioner DJ Hyde and ECWA/TWA owner Mike Tartaglia agreed to make the match in an effort to put together the match considering recent events and fan interest. “Make no mistake about it,” Callihan related to ECWA management. “Only ONE of us is going to advance to the semi-finals in the 15th Annual ECWA Super 8, and then go on to win the Super 8 trophy and it’s gonna be SAMI CALLIHAN!”

Another interesting fact is that Adam Cole and Sami Callihan each worked 7 matches over this past weekend, Fri, Apr 8th to Sun, Apr 10th. That feat only speaks volumes in regard to Cole and Callihan’s stamina, drive and ability and they will be bringing all those winning traits to this year’s Super 8!

Next week ECWA will announce another first round match and the following week the two remaining first round matches. The actual bracketing of first round matches will be determined at random prior to bell time the day of the event.
