Funk-Dreamer rematch in the works?
We waited 12 years for Terry Funk-Tommy Dreamer I. AWE President Rick Garrison wants to cut the wait time down dramatically for Part II.
Sources close to the situation are saying that AWE is working to book a rematch from the AWE Night of Legends instant classic that ended with a controversial finish in favor of Dreamer.
“We want see these two men fight to the finish,” said Garrison, who was seen huddling with the two after their match at the Oct. 15 pay-per-view, which concluded with Dreamer getting a quick 1-2-3 that TV replays indicated afterward had been too quick.
AWE has suspended referee Dale Robinson in the wake of a review by the front office.
Even with the controversy, the match has generated solid buzz on the Internet given the history between the two. Dreamer has said that he owes all his success as a wrestler to Funk, his mentor. The two had been booked for a series in ECW in 1999 that never came off after Funk went on the shelf with an undisclosed physical ailment.
Both Funk and Dreamer are said to be interested in an AWE rematch.
