The fastest growing wrestling promotion in the southeast returned to the National Guard Armory in Wilmington, NC with an action packed show when UPWA rolled into town on July 25th with Summer Showdown 2009.

The night was highlighted with Ivan Koloff’s induction into the UPWA Hall of Fame. Koloff was introduced by long time friend Marc Ash. The locker room emptied to salute the legend as Ivan accepted congratulations from all in attendance.

In the Main Event of the show, UPWA Cruiserweight Champion Amazing Velvet defeated Christopher Shane to retain the title in a Russian Chain Match. Shane seemed to have the title won as he nearly choked Velvet to unconsciousness but as he was touching the turnbuckles so was Velvet. Mustering all his strength, Velvet lurched forward and touched the last turnbuckle to win the match.

In other action, Carolinas Champion The Beast defeated J. Live in a non-title match.

Dr. Luv defeated the Night Terror in a UPWA Heavyweight Title Tournament First Round Match.

Terrific Thomas defeated Plowboy Graven in a UPWA Heavyweight Title Tournament First Round Match.

Cold Cash D defeated The Shooter in a back and forth match.
The debuting team of the Russian Blok defeated Biggie Smalls in Tag Team Action.

In the opening contest, R. Live defeated Marvelous Mike in a UPWA Heavyweight Title Tournament First Round Match.

UPWA heads to the Shallotte Armory on August 15th with an action packed card headlined by The Beast defending the Carolinas Title against the monster Djinn. For more information visit www.theupwa.com
