Mexican luchador Black Demon passes away due to complications of COVID-19 at age 39

Black Demon passes away

The world of lucha libre and pro wrestling as a whole saw its first death as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic as 39-year old luchador Black Demon died due to complications of the virus on April 13.

SuperLuchas.com confirmed the death of Black Demon – real name Roberto Munoz Carrillo – and Boy y Lucha confirmed it, as well. Black Demon is a Mexicali native that debuted in 2009 and performed primarily for local Indie promotions in western Mexico.

Back in February, Black Demon won the Copa Pendragon Rojo, which was his biggest win to date.

Mexico has been spared the level of death rate that many other countries – especially that of the United States – but Black Demon was one of the nearly 500 deaths in the country as a result of COVID-19.

Our condolences go out to the Carrillo family.
