What the news of Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas) joining Ring of Honor full-time says about the direction of ROH & their continued focus on excelling the company’s tag team division: “I think the wrestling landscape is changing in 2011, and I think it needs to. I’ve gone one on record and said this time period reminds me a lot of 1991, and that was the period that things changed a lot. I think we’re at that point, and guys like Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin were guys that were heavily misused in their time in the WWE, except for the time they were a tag team together. We knew they weren’t going to be available to be on the Pay-Per-View. Like we did with Davey (Richards) at Glory By Honor, let them be on the show and make an announcement that was very heavy. It’s a big deal they are going to be part of our tag team division. They just add another level to our roster.”
The next realistic goal for Ring of Honor in 2011: “Adding fans, adding people to shows. Everyone’s like ‘What about regular Pay-Per-Views?’ I’d love to be on NBC tomorrow, but it takes growth. It takes building a product that people want to go out of their way to see, that people want to fly cross-country to want to see. As the last year has proved, there’s not more home run swings in this business, it’s singles. You want to hit consistent singles and not lose you shirt.”
More is contained in Dave’s exclusive Mayhem interview, including his candid thoughts & comments on this past Saturday night’s Final Battle iPPV, the latest update on the health of Davey Richards, the future of “Mr. Wrestling” Kevin Steen, what the future will hold in 2011 for the new #1 contender to the ROH World Title “The Notorious 187” Homicide & the ROH World Television Champion “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels, early plans for Ring of Honor’s next iPPV on GoFightLive.tv: the company’s nine-year anniversary celebration in February, the reason why a “dream match” doesn’t last very long in TNA, plus so much more!
