Tell us your thoughts – Tyrus: Its the 45-year old internet geeks that write fantasy wrestling stories

Hot off the heels of comments from NWA President Billy Corgan regarding those with a negative opinion of Tyrus (formerly Brodus Clay in WWE), the NWA World Champion himself spoke with MuscleManMalcolm on a variety of topics.

On the matter of Corgan’s comment that those who are not going to watch Tyrus are ‘not a wrestling fan’:

“I just laugh. Billy always tries to be room temperature. If you look at every historic moment in pop culture, he’s there.”

Tyrus would go on to address the opinions of fans on the Internet as opposed to those who go to watch the shows in person:

“It’s less of fans and it’s more of the internet geeks and internet guys who are 45 years old and they write fantasy wrestling stories. I’m not really upset about that….If you’ve been to a show and they’re cheering and asking me to kiss babies on the head and grandmas jumping up trying to show me love, I only care about the people that watch and buy tickets.”

MY OPINION: In a rare break from simply presenting news on this site, I wanted to address this as best I can. As someone who is 35 years old and, on occasion, does in fact write “fantasy wrestling stories”…I can almost appreciate feeling seen by a World Champion.

Every promotion has its core audience. NWA certainly has theirs, and I understand that element of where Tyrus is coming from. That said, I must counter by simply saying that I have enough wrestling to consume on a weekly basis without having a company insist that I am not “a real fan” because I have no desire to watch someone plod through matches and appearances, both in wrestling and on his own talk show, while calling himself a champion.

I will stick to my usual diet provided by the likes of WWE, AEW, and the occasional New Japan and the indies, but thanks anyway.
