Former MLW champion requests his release from the promotion

According to Fightful Select and F4WOnline, former MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone has requested his release from the promotion. Back in December of 2021, he reportedly signed a multi-year deal that is up at the end of 2025.

The reports note that Hammerstone has not been informed of MLW’s decision. However, according to Fightful Select, as of now, MLW has not intention to grant Hammerstone’s request.

Hammerstone held the MLW World Heavyweight Championship from October 2021 to July 2023. He won the championship from Jacob Fatu and lost it to Alex Kane.

It is being said by Fightful Select that the relationship between Hammerstone and MLW has become “frayed.” A buyout reportedly was brought earlier this year. It is further being said MLW wants to retain Hammerstone and has been recently in contact with him.

The reports from Fightful and F4Online conclude by noting that from MLW’s perspective, Hammerstone’s “motivation decreased when he was booked to lose the world title to Alex Kane earlier this year.”

Also in MLW, Hammerstone was part of The Dynasty with current AEW World Champion MJF and Richard Holliday, who is a free agent and recently has a tryout with WWE.
