In a new interview with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, former WWE star Phil “CM Punk” Brooks noted that he would be having back surgery to repair a herniated disc soon and that his imminent MMA debut for the UFC, speculated to be at UFC 199 in June against Mickey Gall, would have to be delayed.
In the interview, Punk noted that he had been dealing with the back issue since the start of his training for his eventual UFC debut and that it had gotten bad enough where he couldn’t train, despite undergoing methods to heal his back that didn’t involve surgery.
Punk noted that the surgery and recovery will keep him out of training for 4-6 weeks, but that he still hopes to make his MMA debut for UFC against Gall by the end of 2016.
