Staff Predictions: TNA’s Turning Point PPV

Predictions from the Faculty
TNA Turning Point Edition

Predictions by: WrestleView Columnists and Staff

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty”. This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming TNA Pay-Per-View. This weekend we will provide our selections for TNA’s Turning Point, which will be held at Orlando FL (where most of the TNA PPVs are held).

The card features eight matches as of the time I typed this piece. More than likely, those are the only matches we will predict.

As for the columnists, we continue to see the power struggle for the top spot (the Dean’s Chair). Both Dave Stephens and Josh Boutwell struggled on the previous PPV, but they are still in control with equal 78-48 records. With eight matches to predict, it is anyone’s guess as to who will be the Dean of WrestleView by the end of Sunday. With only five more shows before this season is over, the errors must be at a minimum for our leaders. Keep an eye for Jose Marrero (who last year had a huge surge near the end) and Daniel Browne (he was our first Dean of WrestleView from this season until the Stephens/Boutwell Dynasty).

Ryan Rivera is going to be new to this game. Due to him being the new ROH on HDNet recapper, it was our duty to invite him into the predictions game as well because he is now part of the WrestleView Staff. Welcome, Mr. Rivera.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on WrestleView provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case it will be Royal Rumble 2011).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “WrestleView Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks under the “Student of the Week” tab in the predictions standings. We all thank you for your participation.

Before I show the class our selections, here are the rankings as of WWE’s Bragging Rights.

Current Standings

2010-2011 Season (As of WWE’s Bragging Rights)

1) Josh Boutwell (Viva La Raza and TNA Recapper)……………….78-48 (1-4)
2) David Stephens (That’s a Wrap and RAW Recapper)………….78-48 (2-3)

5) Daniel Browne (For Queen and Country)…………………………….73-53 (4-1)
6) WrestleView Students (The Loyal Readers)………………………..72-54 (3-2)**
7) Matt O’Brien (Notes From The Nosebleeds)…………………………71-55 (3-2)
8) Anthony Valvo (From the Desk of Mr. V)…………………………….71-55 (3-2)
9) Jeff Springer (WWE Superstars Recapper)……………………………62-45 (1-4)
10) Mike Tedesco (Friday Night Smackdown Recapper)……………55-40 (2-3)
11) Doug Lackey (Reality From Ringside)…………………………………..52-42 (NR)
12) Sean Hurley (The Sharpshooter)………………………………………..28-32 (NR)
13) Joe Baiamonte (Baiamonte’s Casa/2009 WV Champ)………24-20 (NR)
14) Enzo Mendicino (WWE NXT Recapper)…………………………………..6-7 (3-2)
15) Ryan Rivera (ROH on HDNet Recapper)………………………………….Debut

There will be some that have yet made predictions. If they do, I will place them under the comments section of this article.

This week’s Students of the Week are Ricky Langston and Pat Lorang. In a rare mistake on my part (where I allowed Mr. Langston to retain the Student of the Week status), I should have actually awarded it to Pat Lorang, who got a perfect 5-0 mark for WWE’s Bragging Rights. However, since I did not catch the error, I allowed Langston to retain and Lorang is in for the Students of the Week.

Predictions for TNA’s Turning Point 2010

***Non-Championship Matches***

Lumberjack Match
Lumberjacks: D’Angelo Dinero’s “congregation”
“The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero vs. “The Monster” Abyss

Josh B. – POPE.

Dave S. – DINERO.

Jose M. – THE POPE.

Pat L. – I guess The Pope has the advantage with the lumberjacks. Does Immortal interfere? Who knows, but more importantly, who cares? I’ve watched TNA the last few weeks and remember why I stopped. I’m going with THE POPE.

Matt O. – POPE.

Anthony V. – Usually in these contests, Abyss loses but does something vicious in the end. I expect a DINERO victory, but I am sure Abyss will do something afterwards and take out either Dinero or his congregation.

Enzo M. – ABYSS.

Ryan R. – ABYSS.

Consensus: DINERO 6-2…Abyss may have “Immortal” with him, but it appears that the staff chose to go with a man with “The Congregation” at his side.

Singles Match
Rob Van Dam vs. Tommy Dreamer

Josh B. – RVD.

Dave S. – ROB VAN DAM.

Jose M. – RVD.

Pat L. – Aren’t they going to be representing Team EV2 later? I saw their encounter on Impact and RVD just comes off as blah to me. This match should have been on Impact, not on PPV. I’ll say RVD wins.

Matt O. – RVD.

Anthony V. – Will TNA actually have their former World Champion job to Dreamer? Oh wait; they did that with AJ Styles last month. Dreamer can’t beat a former TNA World Champion twice, wait he did that against Christian in the WWE days. Not a third time?!?!?!? I am giving this to ROB VAN DAM.

Enzo M. – ROB VAN DAM.

Ryan R. – RVD.

Consensus: ROB VAN DAM 8-0…Dreamer must be “dreaming” if he thinks he will win this match. The staff expects a Van Dam victory in which we all will be right or all wrong.

Singles Match
Samoa Joe vs. Jeff Jarrett

Josh B. – JOE.

Dave S. – JEFF JARRETT.

Jose M. – JEFF JARRETT.

Pat L. – SAMOA JOE.

Matt O. – JARRETT.

Anthony V. – Let’s see…Joe is ticked off at Jeff, but Jeff is in the Immortal faction. I think I am going with JEFF JARRETT, as they continue to bury Joe.

Enzo M. – JEFF JARRETT.

Ryan R. – JOE.

Consensus: JARRETT 5-3…It looks like with the help of Eric Bischoff, Jarrett will be the winner in this grudge match for Samoa Joe.

Singles Match
Mickie James vs. Tara

Josh B. – MICKIE.

Dave S. – MICKIE JAMES.

Jose M. – MICKIE JAMES.

Pat L. – TNA decides that two ex-WWE divas are better than their own TNA Knockouts Champion. Enough said. MICKIE JAMES wins.

Matt O. – JAMES.

Anthony V. – TNA has a knack of giving their new signees a PPV win on their first shot. Even though Mickie James was a part of TNA Wrestling at one point, this is a new Mickie. A “Hardcore Country” Mickie James. I think TNA may actually have somewhat of a story in this result. I am going to go with MICKIE JAMES. I think Madison Rayne inadvertently does something to Tara.

Enzo M. – MICKIE JAMES.

Ryan R. – TARA.

Consensus: MICKIE JAMES 7-1…Mickie is the new girl in town and most of the time TNA give the new knockouts a victory in their first PPV appearance. Expect some Hardcore Country tonight.

Winning Team earns the right to “fire” a member from the losing team
Fortune vs. EV2

Josh B. – FORTUNE.

Dave S. – FORTUNE.

Jose M. – FORTUNE.

Pat L. – FORTUNE dominates in this match. Finally, someone who deserves to leave TNA actually will.

Matt O. – FORTUNE.

Anthony V. – The writing is on the wall. Someone in EV 2.0 will be gone. FORTUNE wins this and I hope both sides give an effort to those that will be buying this show.

Enzo M. – I think Rob Van Dam is the inside man and hes going to turn on EV2.0 and FORTUNE wins

Ryan R. – For this one, I’m gonna go with FORTUNE. But then again, I could really care less who wins this match! I think the whole Immortal/Fortune angle is killing TNA into the ground!

Consensus: FORTUNE 8-0…EV2 should not have won (but did) last month, so it looks like Fortune will take out the extreme wrestlers one by one.

(Optional) Which wrestler gets “fired”?

Josh B. – N/A.

Dave S. – SABU.

Jose M. – Supposedly SABU is running around saying it’s him and he is pissed about it.

Pat L. – RHINO

Matt O. – SABU.

Anthony V. – Rhino or Sabu? SABU is fired because of the possible spoiler that he will not be used after this PPV.

Enzo M. – SABU due to the fact TNA is releasing him.

Ryan R. – As far as who gets fired, that’s an easy one….SABU (all because I already know that he’s leaving the company soon).

Consensus: Though it will not count in our standings, most of us believe that Fortune will “fire” Sabu from TNA and get a good laugh out of it.

***Championship Matches***

TNA X Division Championship
Jay Lethal (c) vs. Robbie E. (w/Cookie)

Josh B. – LETHAL.

Dave S. – JAY LETHAL.

Jose M. – ROBBIE E.

Pat L. – As much as everyone hates The Shore gimmick, I think it actually works. I do think that TNA isn’t backing down on the Shore gimmick. JAY LETHAL isn’t losing this month but Robbie E will eventually get the title.

Matt O. – LETHAL.

Anthony V. – As much as it pains me, ROBBIE E. beats Lethal. Though many don’t like it, TNA is getting free publicity over this “Shore” gimmick. Robbie Eckos is a pretty good wrestler, don’t get me wrong. I just hate the gimmick because I hate the show (Jersey Shore).

Enzo M. – JAY LETHAL….please.

Ryan R. – I was going to go with Jay Lethal, but after the crap that I’ve seen week after week from Shore, I’ll have to pick ROBBIE E! I’m going with Robbie because I think TNA is trying to push this dude so much that it would only be fitting to put the X-Div title on him for…well…at least a week! “Jersey’s in the house…b!tches!!!!” LOL What a tool!

Consensus: LETHAL 5-3…Although Robbie may be on a hot streak with all the publicity going to him with the Shore gimmick, the majority of the staff predict that the champ will retain (and rightfully so).

TNA World Tag Team Championships
Stipulation: If Team 3D wins, they are champs when they retire. If Guns win, 3D still retires.
The Motor City Machineguns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) (c’s) vs. Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon)

Josh B. – GUNS.

Dave S. – THE GUNS.

Jose M. – This match is hard as I figure whoever wins joins Immortal. I want to say The Motor City Machine Guns because that is the biggest swerve but I figure with the Chris Sabin and Velvet Sky thing going it’ll be TEAM 3D.

Pat L. – This match should steal the show. Hopefully Team 3D puts the younger team (MOTOR CITY MACHINEGUNS) over and go out gracefully without the championships.

Matt O. – MCMG.

Anthony V. – Team 3D is not going to leave TNA. We will still see them on TV. The Guns have held the belts for a decent amount of time and I think they will change it up. TEAM 3D wins the match, “retires” (but still be on TV), and holds a tournament for the championships. TNA actually has a good tag team division, they just need to do a better job with the division as a whole.

Enzo M. – TEAM 3D.

Ryan R. – TEAM 3D, retires with their 24th championship!

Consensus: Push 4-4…We know that Team 3D will probably “retire” from professional wrestling; however the staff is not entirely sure as to how 3D will “retire”. Will they win their final world tag team championship, or will they “pass the torch” to Sabin and Shelley?

TNA World Heavyweight Championship
Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Matt Morgan

Josh B. – JEFF HARDY.

Dave S. – JEFF HARDY.

Jose M. – JEFF HARDY.

Pat L. – JEFF HARDY.

Matt O. – JEFF HARDY.

Anthony V. – C’mon, you think I am stupid? JEFF HARDY is keeping the championship and front row TNA fans will show their displeasure.

Enzo M. – JEFF HARDY.

Ryan R. – JEFF HARDY, since the crap that happened at Bound for Glory, it kills me to say this but, Hardy will retain at Turning Point. However, I would love to see the feud grow between Hardy and Morgan.

Consensus: JEFF HARDY 8-0…C’mon? Does anyone really think that Matt Morgan will win this clean and be the TNA World Champion? Didn’t think so.
