Predictions: TNA Genesis PPV

Predictions from the Faculty
TNA Genesis 2011
January 9, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty”. This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming TNA Pay-Per-View. This weekend we will provide our selections for TNA Genesis 2010. The show will be held in Orlando, FL.

The card will feature eight matches as of the time I typed this piece. More than likely, those are the only matches we will predict.

As for the columnists, Dave Stephens posted (once again) the best record out of the Wrestleview Staff (as well as our loyal readers of this column) and opened up a 4-win lead over Josh Boutwell with just two pay-per-views left to predict. “Dean” Stephens may think that he can coast his way to the top spot, and Mr. Stephens has every opportunity to relax and possibly have a speech ready after the 2011 Royal Rumble (the end of this 2nd season).

The competition is still high, as the Bronze is up in the air (more than likely Josh Boutwell will win the silver). Outside of the top two, it is all about pride.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case it will be Royal Rumble 2011).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks under the “Student of the Week” tab in the predictions standings. We all thank you for your participation.

Before I show the class our selections, here are the rankings as of WWE’s TLC 2010.

Current Standings

2010-2011 Season (TLC 2010 record in parentheses)

1) David Stephens (That’s a Wrap and RAW Recapper)………….100-55 (6-0)
2) Josh Boutwell (Viva La Raza and TNA Recapper)……………….96-59 (5-1)
3) Students of the Week (The Best from Prev. PPV)………………92-63 (6-0)
4) Anthony Valvo (From the Desk of Mr. V)…………………………….91-64 (4-2)
5) Wrestleview Students (The Loyal Readers)………………………..90-65 (4-2)
6) Daniel Browne (For Queen and Country)…………………………….89-66 (3-3)
7) Jose Marrero (Wrestling Rumblings)……………………………………89-66 (4-2)
8) Matt O’Brien (Notes From The Nosebleeds)…………………………87-68 (2-4)
9) Jeff Springer (WWE Superstars Recapper)……………………………77-52 (4-2)
10) Mike Tedesco (Friday Night Smackdown Recapper)……………62-46 (3-3)
11) Doug Lackey (Reality From Ringside)…………………………………..52-42 (0-0)
12) Sean Hurley (The Sharpshooter)………………………………………..37-39 (0-0)
13) Enzo Mendicino (WWE NXT Recapper)………………………………….24-18 (3-3)
14) Joe Baiamonte (Baiamonte’s Casa/2009 WV Champ)………24-20 (0-0)
15) Ryan Rivera (ROH on HDNet Recapper)……………………………….20-9 (4-2)
16) Clinton Bowman (Velvet Room Co-Host)……………………………….9-4 (3-3)
17) Nicholas Gray (Velvet Room Co-Host)……………………………………6-9 (2-4)

Those who have not sent their picks (yet) are: Daniel Browne, Doug Lackey, Sean Hurley, Clinton Bowman, and Nicholas Gray.

Note: Dave Stephens made his picks on “The Teacher’s Lounge” and at the time of taping only six matches were announced. If he sends the other ones later I will add it under “comments” below the article.

This week’s Student of the Week is Ken Konarzewski. He retained the spot after an impressive 6-0 PPV record for WWE’s TLC PPV three weeks ago. Remember, in order for a Wrestleview Student to defeat a Student of the Week is to defeat them outright. If a Student of the Week ties the WV Students for best record, then the Student of the Week retains their spot.

Predictions for TNA’s Genesis 2011

***NON-TITLE MATCHES***

“The Double J-Double M-A Exhibition”
I guess the stipulation is if Angle makes him tap, he earns $100K
Jeff Jarrett vs. Kurt Angle

Dave S – N/A.

Josh B. – KURT ANGLE.

Ken K. – JEFF JARRETT.

Anthony V. – I am glad that Kurt Angle is back on television. Say what one wants, but he was missed. The feud resumes with KURT ANGLE stealing Jarrett’s “money”, but leaves the wife and kids to him.

Jose M. – I’m pretty sure that when he made it an “exhibition” it no longer became for 100K but regardless something has to kick things off to officially reinstate ANGLE, so I say he wins here.

Matt O. – KURT ANGLE.

Jeff S. – KURT ANGLE.

Enzo M. – KURT ANGLE.

Ryan R. – KURT ANGLE.

CONSENSUS: KURT ANGLE 7-1. Jarrett will have to be ready, as it looks like we are going with Angle to come back to TNA with a victory.

Immortal will pick Rob Van Dam’s Mystery Opponent

Note: Some of us predicted who the opponent will be, but I did not add it because of a Spoiler on Wrestleview. Some of us were correct.

Rob Van Dam vs. ?

Dave S – ???? ????? (MATT HARDY).

Josh B. – ROB VAN DAM.

Ken K. – IMMORTAL OPPONENT.

Anthony V. – RVD wins this because when in doubt, bet against Matt Hardy.

Jose M. – MATT HARDY whose no compete clause expired this week.

Matt O. – ROB VAN DAM.

Jeff S. – ROB VAN DAM.

Enzo M. – ROB VAN DAM.

Ryan R. – ROB VAN DAM.

CONSENSUS: ROB VAN DAM 6-3. Some of the Faculty before the announcement predicted the mystery opponent, but now that apparently it is Matt Hardy. Still, the Faculty’s majority goes with RVD to get the victory in this contest.

Singles Match
Bully Ray vs. Brother Devon

Dave S – BULLY RAY.

Josh B. – BULLY RAY.

Ken K. – DEVON.

Anthony V. – Who is feeling “bully” today? BULLY RAY cheats his way to victory!

Jose M. – BULLY RAY.

Matt O. – BULLY RAY.

Jeff S. – BULLY RAY.

Enzo M. – DEVON.

Ryan R. – I really don’t like this feud, but if I must pick a winner, I’ll choose DEVON. It’s time for DeVon to get the upper hand.

CONSENSUS: BULLY RAY 6-3. In a grudge match between two former tag team partners, it looks like we are mostly going with the “Bully” in this match.

Singles Match to determine the #1 Contender for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship
Matt Morgan vs. Mr. Anderson

Dave S – MR. ANDERSON.

Josh B. – ANDERSON.

Ken K. – ANDERSON.

Anthony V. – This match to me is very confusing on paper. I just hope that this main event is good in the ring. I think Anderson’s acts woozy and may even get taken out before his match begins. Anderson may become a new member of Fortune as well (what a twist). I think MATT MORGAN wins because I think TNA actually wants to keep him in the title picture.

Jose M. – MR. ANDERSON.

Matt O. – MR. ANDERSON.

Jeff S. – MATT MORGAN.

Enzo M. – MR. ANDERSON.

Ryan R. – I think its Morgan’s time to shine! MATT MORGAN, your new #1 contender after Genesis!

CONSENSUS: MR. ANDERSON 6-3. The Faculty goes with the @$$hole to be next in line for Jeff Hardy’s Championship. The next question will be if Anderson goes heel, or Morgan, or neither.

***CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES***

For the TNA Knockout’s Championship
Madison Rayne (c) vs. Mickie James

Dave S – MADISON RAYNE.

Josh B. – MICKIE.

Ken K. – JAMES.

Anthony V. – I may be a minority when I say this, but I really think that no one (male or female) improved both in the ring and on the mic in 2010 than Madison Rayne. She makes a great heel champion and I think this continues (I hope). I am probably wrong, but I say that MADISON RAYNE retains.

Jose M. – MICKIE JAMES.

Matt O. – MICKIE JAMES.

Jeff S. – MICKIE JAMES.

Enzo M. – MICKIE JAMES.

Ryan R. – MICKIE JAMES.

CONSENSUS: MICKIE JAMES 7-2. Though Rayne has the championship, James has the momentum after getting the upper hand of a feud between her and Tara, Rayne’s associate.

For the TNA World Tag Team Championship
The Motor City Machineguns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) (c’s) vs. Beer Money (James Storm and Robert Roode)

Dave S – N/A.

Josh B. – BEER MONEY.

Ken K. – BEER MONEY.

Anthony V. – One of the best tag team feuds of 2010 continues once again in 2011. I think this is a night in which Fortune earns some championships, so I think it is time for BEER MONEY to finally become the champions once again. Besides, Sabin and Shelley had a great run with those titles. It is time for a change.

Jose M. – BEER MONEY.

Matt O. – BEER MONEY.

Jeff S. – MCMG.

Enzo M. – BEER MONEY.

Ryan R. – BEER MONEY in the upset! It kills me to say that since I’m a huge fan of the Guns.

CONSENSUS: BEER MONEY 7-1. The Guns have been the longest reigning “current” TNA Champions. Tonight, it is predicted that it comes to an end. Beer Money adds some Gold to their Fortune.

For the TNA X Division Championship
Jay Lethal (c) vs. Kazarian

Dave S – KAZARIAN.

Josh B. – KAZARIAN.

Ken K. – KAZ.

Anthony V. – Outside of AJ Styles, I think this is the night of Fortune. They want titles? They will get titles! This can be a good match to watch. In the end, KAZARIAN ends Lethal’s brief run as X Division Champion.

Jose M. – KAZARIAN.

Matt O. – KAZARIAN.

Jeff S. – KAZARIAN.

Enzo M. – JAY LETHAL.

Ryan R. – LETHAL.

CONSENSUS: KAZARIAN 7-2. The Faculty predicts more Gold to Fortune in this contest as well. This time, Kazarian will “style and profile” with the X Division title over a man that is just “living a dream”.

For the TNA Television Championship
If AJ Styles loses the match, he is out of Immortal and Fortune
Douglas Williams (c) vs. AJ Styles

Dave S – DOUGLAS WILLIAMS.

Josh B. – WILLIAMS.

Ken K. – AJ.

Anthony V. – This will probably be the match of the evening. I think both can work a great program on what I think is a lackluster card. In the end, I think it is time for AJ Styles to leave the factions and turn face. The Good Guys on TNA are a much weaker than Fortune and Immortal, and Styles would be a story to watch in 2011. With that typed, I am going with DOUGLAS WILLIAMS to retain.

Jose M. – DOUG WILLIAMS.

Matt O. – AJ STYLES.

Jeff S. – DOUG WILLIAMS.

Enzo M. – DOUG WILLIAMS and AJ becomes a face.

Ryan R. – DOUGLAS WILLIAMS will retain. AJ will turn and leave Immortal and Fortune!

CONSENSUS: DOUGLAS WILLIAMS 7-2. Well, according to our Wrestleview Faculty it does not bode well for Styles. We most likely predict Williams retaining and Styles being kicked out of Fortune.
