Staff predictions: TNA Turning Point 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
TNA Turning Point PPV
November 13, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming TNA Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for The Return of WWE Vengeance. The show will be held in Orlando, FL.

The card is currently booked to have nine matches.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate the records throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be five championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be FIVE points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the Wrestleview “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

Current Standings (As of WWE Vengenace)

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct

43: Mike Tedesco
41: Jose Marrero
40: Dave Stephens; Jason Namako
39: Ryan Rivera; Gregory Walek; Anthony Valvo
38: Nicholas Gray
37: Greg McNeish; Josh Boutwell
35: Evan O’Brien
31: Matt O’Brien
29: Darragh O’Connor

Note: The Big Show vs. Mark Henry was taken off the record books.

The Student of the Week for WWE Vengeance will be Brian Czygan. Mr. Czygan went a perfect 7-0 three weeks ago with WWE’s Vengeance.

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

Prizes:

1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing (max 3 disc set).
2nd Place – A T-Shirt
3rd Place – A Coffee Mug
Worst – TNA Victory Road 2009 (or 2011) DVD.

The Wrestleview Reader Leaderboard

I will just type out the top readers at this time. The first set of parentheses is the W/L record for WWE’s Hell in a Cell. The second parentheses are the Tie-Breaker points.

1) Jordan Benterman…………………………………………..87-49 (4-3) (41) – #1
2) Brian Czygan……………………………………………………85-51 (7-0) (43) – #2
3) Wade Bradford………………………………………………..84-52 (4-3) (39) – #3
4) Sam Newstone……………………………………………….82-54 (5-2) (43)
5) Michael Fox……………………………………………………82-54 (4-3) (36)
6) Nick Latham…………………………………………………….79-49 (5-2) (40)

The person with the most picks incorrect is currently 51-70 with 26 tiebreaker points. Therefore, I deem that score the worst.

Also to those that have participated in all the previous PPVs, keep it up. Though there are only a handful of PPVs left you can still be a Student of the Week sometime this year.

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…

Predictions for TNA Turning Point

(Note: As of Press time Jose Marrero and Student of the Week Brian Czygan did not provide picks and are excused. I will add them under the comments when I get them.)

*** NON-TITLE MATCHES ***

Singles Match
Jeff Jarrett vs. Jeff Hardy

Jose M. – N/A.

Dave S. – JEFF HARDY.

Jason N. – JEFF JARRETT.

Ryan R. – JEFF HARDY.

Mike T. – JEST HARVEY.

Gregory W. – JEFF HARDY.

Anthony V. – HARDY. This is his return to PPV. No one wants to see him re-live his last PPV match, so if we see the Jeff Hardy from his World Heavyweight Championship (in the WWE) run, this should be very good. Let him get this one over Jarrett, and the feud will get better.

Nicholas G. – JEFF HARVEY.

Josh B. – HARDY.

Greg M. – JEFF; Oh! Uh… I guess I’ll go with the Jeff of the HARDY persuasion.

Evan O. – JEFF JARRETT.

Matt O. – JEFF JARRETT.

Darragh O. – HARDY.

Brian C. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: JEFF HARDY. The feud has been intense starring Jarrett’s loyalty to the company he founded against a man who let the company down on a few occasions. In the end, this could be a big step towards Hardy’s recovery.

JEFF HARDY 9; Jeff Jarrett 3.

Singles Match
Crimson vs. Matt Morgan

Jose M. – N/A.

Dave S. – CRIMSON.

Jason N. – CRIMSON.

Ryan R. – CRIMSON.

Mike T. – CRIMSON’S reign of terror continues.

Gregory W. – CRIMSON.

Anthony V. – CRIMSON. Bottom line: Crimson does not lose this streak over a mid-card wrestler.

Nicholas G. – CRIMSON.

Josh B. – CRIMSON.

Greg M. – CRIMSON; He’s mah boi. He’s also undefeated. You don’t waste that on Matt Morgan. Please, TNA, don’t waste that on Matt Morgan….

Evan O. – CRIMSON.

Matt O. – CRIMSON.

Darragh O. – CRIMSON

Brian C. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: CRIMSON. Nothing to really address here, Crimson has a very big streak and everyone on the Wrestleview Staff agree that the trend continues.

CRIMSON 12; Matt Morgan 0.

No Disqualification Match
Rob Van Dam vs. Christopher Daniels

Jose M. – N/A.

Dave S. – CHRISTOPHER DANIELS.

Jason N. – CHRISTOPHER DANIELS.

Ryan R. – RVD.

Mike T. – DANIELS.

Gregory W. – ROB VAN DAM.

Anthony V. – ROB VAN DAM. There are times I hope I am wrong. I am hoping this is the match I get incorrect. Daniels needs this more than RVD, but I feel that the booking points to Van Dam.

Nicholas G. – STONER VAN DAM.

Josh B. – RVD.

Greg M. – CHRISTOPHER DANIELS; I do my best to avoid picking RVD, whenever possible.

Evan O. – CHRISTOPHER DANIELS.

Matt O. – RVD.

Darragh O. – RVD.

Brian C. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: ROB VAN DAM. Daniels is now in full-heel mode and this no disqualification match should be an advantage to him. However, in the end the decision was close, but the staff believe that RVD can overcome this obstacle and win this match.

ROB VAN DAM 7; Christopher Daniels 5.

Tag Team Match
Mr. Anderson and Abyss vs. Scott Steiner and Bully Ray

Jose M. – N/A.

Dave S. – BULLY RAY AND SCOTT STEINER.

Jason N. – BULLY RAY AND SCOTT STEINER.

Ryan R. – ANDERSON AND ABYSS.

Mike T. – STIENER AND BULLAY~!

Gregory W. – MR. ANDERSON AND ABYSS.

Anthony V. – STEINER AND BULLAY~! It is tough, when I pick Bully Ray, he loses. When I pick someone battling Bully Ray, I lose. But give me Scott Steiner over Abyss any day. Plus, I smell a weapon being used behind Brian Hebner’s back or even in front of him.

Nicholas G. – @$$HOLE ABYSS.

Josh B. – STEINER AND RAY.

Greg M. – STEINER & RAY; This is definitely picking with my heart. The heel antics of these two together should be amazing. This is MOTN on principle.

Evan O. – MR. ANDERSON AND ABYSS.

Matt O. – ANDERSON & ABYSS.

Darragh O. – MR. ANDERSON AND ABYSS.

Brian C. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: TIE. In a match that features two makeshift teams, there is no predicted clear-cut winner between the two members of Immortal against two former members of the faction.

Scott Steiner and Bully Ray 6; Mr. Anderson and Abyss 6.

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Singles Match for the TNA Knockout’s Championship
Velvet Sky (c) vs. Gail Kim

Jose M. – N/A.

Dave S. – VELVET SKY.

Jason N. – VELVET SKY.

Ryan R. – GAIL KIM.

Mike T. – GAIL KIM because she is a woman and can wrestle and they underutilized her in the WWE and wha, wah, wah!!

Gregory W. – GAIL KIM.

Anthony V. – SKY. I know TNA may give the title to Kim, but they built up this Sky reign for months. It would not be wise to just give the title to someone else.

Nicholas G. – VELVET.

Josh B. – SKY.

Greg M. – VELVET SKY; Sure, it’s TNA, and Gail Kim is fresh from the WWE, but putting TWO titles on her within the first month is a bit much, even for them. Let’s let Velvet Sky live the dream a little longer.

Evan O. – VELVET SKY.

Matt O. – VELVET SKY.

Darragh O. – GAIL KIM.

Brian C. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: SKY. Gail Kim may be the new “flavor of the week” by the TNA writing team, but the majority of the staff believes that Sky was built for a longer title run than a month. Expect the champion to retain.

VELVET SKY 8; Gail Kim 4.

Six-Person Intergender Tag Team Match for the TNA World Tag Team Championship
Mexican America (Hernandez, Anarquia, and Sarita) (c’s) vs. Ink Inc. (Shannon Moore, Jesse Neal, and Toxxin)

Jose M. – N/A.

Dave S. – INK INC.

Jason N. – INK INC.

Ryan R. – INK INC.

Mike T. – INK INC.

Gregory W. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Anthony V. – INK INC. Shannon Moore, you finally got a TNA Title! Plus, I mean the Wrestleview poll voters think that they are the best tag team in wrestling today! I don’t go against the people.

Nicholas G. – INK INC.

Josh B. – INK INC.

Greg M. – INK INC.; Having a title change with a couple random chicks tossed in sounds fantastic, to me. Beyond that, Mexican America has lost whatever lustre they had, and with Beer Money dead & buried, they need a new top babyface team pretty desperately. Ink Inc. is pretty much their only option.

Evan O. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Matt O. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Darragh O. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Brian C. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: INK INC. Mexican America and Ink Inc. have been feuding for the last couple months and most of the Wrestleview staff believe that it is time for a change. Expect Ink Inc. to find a way to win this match.

INK Inc. 8; Mexican America 4.

Singles Match for the TNA Television Championship
Eric Young (c) vs. Robbie E

Jose M. – N/A.

Dave S. – ERIC YOUNG.

Jason N. – ROBBIE E.

Ryan R. – EY.

Mike T. – ERIC YOUNG.

Gregory W. – ROBBIE E.

Anthony V. – ROBBIE E. My heart said that I have to go with a fellow gym teacher (still even if he is not we are in an unofficial fraternity). Plus, how great would it be if Eric Young does not hold that title anymore?

Nicholas G. – YOUNG.

Josh B. – ROBBIE.

Greg M. – ROBBIE E; If memory serves, we haven’t seen either of these kids on PPV since Destination X. With this new association with that guy from Jersey Shore (whoever the f’ it is), Robbie E is a natural fit for getting some TV time. That was a pun, you see….

Evan O. – ERIC YOUNG.

Matt O. – ERIC YOUNG.

Darragh O. – ROBBIE E.

Brian C. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: TIE. This was another matchup in which the Wrestleview Staff had problems predicting as a whole. Sure, Eric Young may have a celebrity at his corner, but it may not be enough for Robbie E’s associate, Robbie T (aka Rob Terry in case you haven’t watched recently).

Eric Young 6; Robbie E 6.

Three-Way Dance for the TNA X Division Championship
Austin Aries (c) vs. Jesse Sorenson vs. Kid Kash

Jose M. – N/A.

Dave S. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Jason N. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Ryan R. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Mike T. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Gregory W. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Anthony V. – ARIES. I say keep it on him until there is an X Division wrestler that can make Aries in wits. Aries to me IS the best thing for this division, so he must retain.

Nicholas G. – ARIES.

Josh B. – ARIES.

Greg M. – AUSTIN ARIES; Jesse could still use some seasoning, before getting a title run, while Kash is here to keep from burning this card as a singles match, just yet. Or they could have this a triple threat to protect Aries in a loss. Who cares? They’re little critters. I just want FLIPS~!

Evan O. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Matt O. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Darragh O. – ARIES.

Brian C. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: ARIES. This was clear-cut by the Wrestleview Staff that A-Double will once again have a successful title defense.

AUSTIN ARIES 12; Jesse Sorenson and Kid Kash did not get a vote.

Singles Match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship
Bobby (not Robert) Roode vs. AJ Styles

Note: When I sent the card I used “Robert” Roode, but was corrected by Josh Boutwell. My apologies

Jose M. – N/A.

Dave S. – BOBBY ROODE.

Jason N. – BOBBY ROODE.

Ryan R. – BOBBY ROODE.

Mike T. – BOBBY ROODE.

Gregory W. – Kurt Angle. HA HA HA Just Kidding. AJ vs Roode isn’t happening. So AJ is getting replaced, I say it’s Angle, but ROODE is not dropping the belt.

Anthony V. – ROODE. Even if AJ is a no-go due to the ankle injury, I would still predict Roode over the field in a match that should help elevate Roode’s heel character.

Nicholas G. – ROODE.

Josh B. – ROODE.

Greg M. – ROBERT BOBBY ROODE; Didn’t they recently make the change to “Bobby Roode”? Is this a move to make his less relatable, or is Mr. V playing games? Ah whatever. Roode gets the nice establishment win, over the guy with a bum leg.

Evan O. – BOBBY ROODE.

Matt O. – BOBBY ROODE.

Darragh O. – BOBBY ROODE.

Brian C. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: ROODE. Regardless if it is AJ Styles or anyone else battling Bobby Roode for the World Title, no one believes that this title will change hands anytime soon.

BOBBY ROODE 12; AJ Styles 0.
