TNA iMPACT!
Orlando, Florida (iMPACT! Zone)
October 1, 2009
Commentators: Mike Tenay & Taz
Report by: Josh Boutwell of WrestleView.com

First off, before I go into the report I?ll talk about last week. Last week was the first time since I start writing the Impact recaps over a year ago that I actually missed the show completely (it’s been late a couple of weeks). I came down with the Swine Flu early last week and by Thursday I was completely out of it. There was just no way I was going to be able to cover the show that day or in the next few days. I?m cool this week, though, and it’s back to business as usual. Let’s cross the line!

The show opens up with the usual Impact Intro hits and then we get the opening pyro but as the pyro is going off ?The Monster? Abyss limps down to the ring while footage is shown of the violent beatdown Abyss suffered last week at the hands of Mick Foley. Abyss says that the doctors told him he can?t compete tonight but he needs answers from Mick Foley. He screams that Mick owes him some answers as the fans chant ?we want answers.? Foley’s music hits and the psychotic TNA shareholder makes his way down to the ring barbed wire bat in hand. Foley has two members of TNA security trailing him to the ring. He’s wearing a Dude Love-like tie-dye t-shirt under his flannel tonight. Foley asks Abyss if he just heard him say that he owed Abyss anything. Foley says that Abyss has taken everything in his career from Foley. Everything from his look to his persona is stolen from Mick Foley and he asks Abyss if he owes Abyss for the 20+ years he dedicated to this business or if he owes him for paving the way for guys like Abyss to make a living. He then asks Abyss if he owes him for giving him his flannel shirt to carry on his hardcore tradition. Foley says he doesn?t owe Abyss anything. Abyss says he wants to make one thing clear and that is he was only trying to save Foley from Nash because he didn?t know what Nash was willing to do to him. Abyss says the ?Twit-n-Tweak Connection? picture incident it was an accident and he accidentally knocked the picture over when he went into Foley’s office to get the barbed wire bat to save Foley. Foley says that Abyss didn?t have permission to enter Foley’s office or to take Foley’s bat. He says he didn?t say ?Hey, Chris Parks, come down and mess up my Legends Title shot!? Foley says that he didn?t need Abyss? help and he didn?t need to be saved. Abyss starts to put his head down but Foley screams at him to look at him. Foley asks Abyss if he needed any help when he was being hurled off of a 20-foot Hell In A Cell by the Undertaker or when his flesh was hanging on barbed wire in Japan or when half of his ear was ripped off his skull in Germany. Foley talks about speaking in German to the EMT’s telling them not to forget his ear. Foley says he didn?t need Abyss then and he doesn?t need him now. Abyss starts to say that Foley is his hero but stops and changes it to you WERE my hero. Abyss starts to become increasingly angry, screaming at Foley saying that he idolized Foley and wanted to be him. He says he got into the wrestling business because of Mick Foley and he can remember all the beatings he received from his father as a child and Mick Foley being the one getting him threw it by watching him spill his own blood for the fans. Abyss says Foley repays him and then takes the bandage of his stitches on his head and shows it to the camera. Pretty nasty cut from the Monster. Foley says that it has crossed his mind that his actions may have been a little extreme but he isn?t the only one hurting. He shows his hand which was injured in the beating last week. He has brought a peace offering which is Mick’s ?Twit-n-Tweak? painting but it’s actually a copy. Foley says it’s a ?cheap imitation, a ripoff? and if anybody should know what a cheap imitation or a ripoff is it’s Abyss. Foley says Abyss has stole his fair share of TNA PPV’s and even has a match, Monsters Ball, named after him, but when it comes to comparisons to him Abyss isn?t even in the same league. He says he’s a cheap, lowrate Mick Foley wannabe. Foley then blasts Abyss over the head with the picture, good lord. As Foley walks up the ramp Abyss gets to his feet and runs over him! Abyss starts destroying Foley’s security even throwing one off the stage! Abyss Chokeslams another on the stage and then chases Foley down the tunnel!

—COMMERCIAL BREAK—

In the back Abyss is going nuts while Lauren tries to calm him down. Abyss says Lauren doesn?t understand what’s happening and tells her to leave him alone and walks away. She follows after him and hands her microphone to the cameraman.

TNA X-Division Title #1 Contendership
Ladder Match
Amazing Red vs. Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Kiyoshi vs. ?Black Machismo? Jay Lethal vs. Consequences Creed

Kiyoshi has new gear this week. He actually is wearing tights instead of the baggy pants he usually wears. He’s no longer wearing the Great Muta-like face paint either. Honestly it reminds me of the differences between Great Muta and his other persona Keiji Mutoh. If you recall Muta actually wears his paint and baggy pants when he wrestles as Muta and then wears actual tights with no face paint as Keiji Mutoh. Just something to keep in mind. The winner of this match earns a shot at the X-Division Title next week! Tenay points out that Kiyoshi & Bashir and Lethal Consequences can work together they?re tag teams while Amazing Red (who is also Puerto Rican, World Elite maybe?) is solo. The bell rings and Lethal Consequences go at with the World Elite members! Red decides to go ahead and grab a ladder on the outside and bring it in! Lethal with a big elbow to Kiyoshi and then he grabs Red and hits several jabs. Lethal comes off the ropes and goes for a hip toss but Red blocks it and swings around Lethal’s body and hits an armdrag! Red then comes off the ropes and Lethal leapfrogs him and then Red hits a big running back elbow followed by a Springboard Hurricanrana! Creed attacks Red from behind and whips him into the ropes and goes for a clothesline, but Red ducks and hits a dropkick! Bashir runs in and he and Kiyoshi double team Red. They whip Red into the ropes and go for a double clothesline but Red ducks and hits a Double Dropkick on Kiyoshi & Bashir! Red is on fire as he sets up the ladder in the ring! Red starts climbing the ladder but Lethal grabs his leg allowing Creed to hit a Springboard Bulldog off the ladder on Red! We see a shot off Abyss running around the backstage area screaming at people to tell him where Mick Foley is. Back in the ring Bashir nails Creed with that sick WMD Driver! Bashir goes for a clothesline but Lethal counters it into the Lethal Combination! Lethal sets the ladder back up and starts climbing up it but Red pushes the ladder over causing Lethal to snap his head back on the top rope. Kiyoshi attacks Red from behind and then Bashir comes in and they double team Red again. They whip Red into the corner and Kiyoshi charges but Red gets his boot up and then does a Spinning Enziguri actually using Kiyoshi’s back to roll through into the Enziguri to Bashir! Red then hits a Spinning Tornado DDT on Kiyoshi spinning all the around Kiyoshi’s body! Lethal goes for a clothesline on Red but he ducks and then springboards off the middle rope into the Red Eye! Red goes for a Roundhouse Kick on Creed but he ducks and Red spins right through into a Spinning Enziguri to the back of Creed’s head! Red then hits the Rana Driver! It actually looks like Creed vomited as his damn head hit the mat! Oh my god that is nasty! I feel your pain, Creed. They replay it and yes Creed vomited. I don?t know if he suffered a concussion during the match (see Tim Tebow last week) or if he was sick. Red climbs up the ladder and pulls down the contract!

Winner & NEW X-Division #1 Contender: Amazing Red via pulling down the contract

In the back we see Abyss still searching for Mick Foley knocking stuff over. We then cut back to ringside where Jeramy Borash approaches Amazing Red. Red says he’s not thinking about the match next week just yet, he’s going to enjoy his win right now. Jay Lethal runs up and tells ?Red Rooster? to hold up one second and says Red stole the win from them. Red and Lethal start shoving each other but Creed comes over and pulls Lethal away. Again we cut to a shot of Abyss still searching for Foley.

—COMMERCIAL BREAK—

In the back JB pushes the stupid TNA Mobile thing and then brings in Stevie and Daffney. He asks Stevie if he’s spoken to Mick lately, but Stevie says he’s had nothing to do with what’s gone down between Foley & Abyss. He says Foley just smartened up and finally realized who Abyss was. Stevie turns his attention to Kevin Nash and screams into the camera was that Nash stole his money. He says that the deal was $50,000 to end Abyss? career, not just beat him. He says Nash has his money and tonight he ends Nash’s career. JB says ?he’s mad? and Daffney says no, he’s angry, she’s mad!

Stevie Richards w/?Zombie Hot? Daffney vs. ?Big Sexy? Kevin Nash

That’s right I?m officially giving Daffney the ?Zombie Hot? nickname since Taz has coined the phrase. They show footage of Stevie tasing Nash last week. Stevie goes to the floor as the bell rings and makes Nash chase him and then Daffney hits the ring steps with the baton distracting Nash. This allows Stevie to attack Nash from behind kicking him in the knee repeatedly. Stevie throws Nash into the ring steps and then rolls Nash into the ring. Richards puts the boots to Nash and then mounts Nash and reigns down right hands on him. Stevie continues to put the boots to Nash and then he drops an Elbow Drop on Nash and gets a nearfall. Stevie headbutts Nash and then puts Nash in his General Anesthesia (Cobra Clutch) submission move! Nash gets to his feet and Stevie hangs onto Nash’s back but Nash backs into the corner slamming Stevie into it. Daffney hands Stevie the baton and he charges at Nash but east the Big Boot instead. Nash pulls the straps down and then nails the Jackknife Powerbomb! Nash covers Stevie with one foot?1?2?3!

Winner: Nash via pinfall (Jackknife Powerbomb)

In the back Eric Young is leading the World Elite in the backstage area walking towards the MEM lockerroom. JB asks EY where he’s going and EY says Angle owes him an apology. Homicide was hilarious while walking down the hall yelling things like ‘sucka? and snatching pictures off the wall and slamming them on the floor.

—COMMERCIAL BREAK—

In the MEM lockerroom they are screaming at World Elite until Angle tells everybody to shutup and then tells Young has 5 seconds to say what he has to say. EY says that Angle owes ?his men? an apology but Angle says they should?ve known better than get in his face. EY says either Angle apologizes and it’s water under the bridge or he doesn?t and it’s a big problem. Before Angle can say anything else Booker gets in Young’s face and says what they think about his little problem the same thing they think about his little ?JC Penny suit? and says he’s about to get his a** whooped. Young holds his people back and says they need the MEM but not as bad as the Mafia needs them. He says they?re faster, stronger, younger, and hungrier. Young tells Booker to get back in line in his spot behind Kurt and behind him. Book tells Young to lead his a** out his face. Young asks Kurt if that’s how he handles his men. Young then says he has a match against Morgan tonight and he?ll show Angle how he should?ve handled him from the start and walks off. Angle says ?the foreigners? are on their hit list now as Booker says he tried to tell Angle about them.

Playboy Bunny Match
Traci Brooks vs. Christy Hemme

Both Traci and Christy come out wearing Playboy t-shirts (or at least part of a shirt) and bunny ears. Mike Tenay asks Taz if he?d seen Traci’s playboy pictures and Taz says he’s happily married. Tenay asks Taz what the hell being married has to do with looking at pictures, classic. Someone needs to ask Mr. V the same thing, ha (sorry Mr. V). Traci jumps Christy at the bell and throws her into the corner and putting the boots to Christy. Both ears came off pretty quick. Tracy lights up the beautiful chest of Christy Hemme with chops and then chokes her on the middle rope. Traci then hits a Double Knee Strike to the back of Christy’s head as she was draped over the middle rope for a nearfall. Traci then throws Christy across the ring by the hair. Traci then charges at Christy but she gets her boots up and hits a Facebuster! Christy then hits a Hook Kick! 1?2?NO Traci kicks out! Christy climbs to the top and goes for the FFG but Traci moves! Traci covers Christy, 1?2?NO Christy kicks out! Traci with more chops on Christy in the corner and then charges again but Christy lifts herself up and over Traci right into a rollup! 1?2?3!

Winner: Hemme via pinfall (rollup)

After the match Traci jumps Christy and hits a modified Jawbreaker.

We cut to footage of a sitdown interview Mike Tenay had with AJ Styles and Sting that will be shown after the break!

—COMMERCIAL BREAK—

In the back Abyss has finally found Mick Foley but Foley blasts Abyss with the barbed wire bat repeatedly and asks Abyss if he still wants him to come out from hiding. Abyss reaches up and grabs Foley by the throat slams him into a table! Abyss then jumps on him and starts throwing right hand after right hand until security runs up and pulls Abyss off. Foley pulls himself up and jumps onto Abyss and security tries to keep both men apart. Abyss breaks away from security and hits a few more right hands on Foley before they finally pull him away again.

We finally cut to Tenay’s sitdown interview with AJ and Sting. Tenay asks AJ what went through his mind in the time between winning the belt and issuing the challenge to Sting for BFG. AJ says we all saw that Sting could have pinned Angle and whether or not AJ would have stopped the count is pointless because he can?t stop thinking about the possibility that Sting could?ve won the match. AJ says that’s why he issued the challenge because he has to know if he can beat Sting. Tenay turns to Sting and asks him why he decided to let AJ get the pin. Sting says that he’s been in the business for 23 years and he doesn?t even know how many times he’s been World Champion and he’s faced all the biggest stars in the business so he’s pretty much done it all. He says he needed to pass the torch and it is what it is. AJ interrupts Tenay and says he doesn?t mean to be disrespectful and says he gets the passing the torch thing but it could be taken one of two ways. AJ says there’s passing the torch and there’s just no wanting it anymore. He asks Sting if he’s ready Bound For Glory because if he’s not ready to go after the title then maybe Sting shouldn?t even lace them up and he says that with all respect. AJ leaves with Sting staring at AJ.

—COMMERCIAL BREAK—

Tara makes her way down to the announce table as she will do guest commentary for the next match.

TNA Knockouts Championship
ODB (c) vs. Awesome Kong w/Raisha Saeed

They show footage of the brawl between Kong and Tara last week and the situation between ODB & Tara as well. ODB takes a swig of her flask as the fans chant for her and then Kong shoves ODB. ODB answers with a big forearm but Kong answers with one of her own. ODB hits a running forearm and then Kong grabs ODB by the hair, but ODB grabs Kong by her dreadlocks as well! Kong goes for a clothesline but ODB ducks and lights Kong up with chops. ODB hits a shoulder block and then hits a second, but when she went for a third Kong hits a shoulder block of her own knocking ODB across the ring. Kong goes for a Big Splash but ODB moves and hits the Bronco Buster in the corner! ODB attempts to whip Kong into the corner but Kong reverses it and charges at ODB. ODB rolls underneath Kong and then charges herself, but Kong moves and then hits a Corner Splash! Kong rubs ODB’s face in her pits! Now that was nasty! Kong hits a Scoop Slam followed by a Leg Drop! 1?2?NO ODB kicks out! Kong puts ODB in the Camel Clutch as Raisha Saeed approaches Tara at the announce table and shoves her. Tara takers her headset off and gets in Raisha’s face. Kong sees this and grabs Tara by the hair and pulls her up to the apron, but Tara hits a neckbreaker on the top rope allowing ODB to roll Kong up! 1?2?3 and ODB retains!

Winner & STILL Knockouts Champ: ODB via pinfall (rollup)

After the match Tara applauds ODB and says ?your welcome? to ODB but ODB isn?t thankful. They begin shoving each other back and forth and ODB nails Tara with a forearm and Tara answers back! They exchange forearms and right hands in the center of the ring until Kong comes in and levels both of them! Kong grabs ODB and hits the Implant Buster on her and then one on Tara!

Hernandez and Angle lockup and Angle gets the advantage with a side headlock but Hernandez shoves him off and then levels Angel with a shoulder block! Hernandez picks Angle up and goes for the Delayed Suple x but Angle quickly counters it and nails Hernandez with a series of European Uppercuts! Angle comes off the ropes and gets destroyed with a huge Shoulder Block! Hernandez pulls his t-shirt off and wraps it around Angle’s neck going for that Biel Throw, but Angle blocks it and goes out to the apron and points at his head. —COMMERCIAL BREAK—

They show a replay of what just happened between MEM, WE, and Hernandez. In the back So Cal Val is with the Machine Guns. Sabin says last week Mick Foley revealed to them a sad truth and that they have the worst theme music ever. He says that it’s the worst music ever is questionable because he still has nightmares of people chasing him down a dark alley with swords and axes all chanting ?Hail Sabin? (who remember that theme song he had? Haha classic, I remember some people actually thought it said ?Hail Satan?). Sabin says they are taking matters into their own hands and Shelley says that Sabin’s old music sounded like someone has a seizure ontop of a keyboard. Sabin says what Mick Foley lacks in style he makes up for in observation skills. He says they have auditioned artists to make their new theme music and next week they will debut the song over a special highlight video of the Guns.

The Beautiful People minus Angelina Love make their way out to the ring. Madison is looking mighty chesty tonight. Velvet says that everyone knows by know that due to contractual issues Angelina is no longer part of the Beautiful People and now that Angelina is gone they need to come clean. Velvet & Madison pull Lacey off of Sarita and then they celebrate in the ring!

In the back Matt Morgan is with So Cal Val. Morgan says he could care less about the ?lovers quarrel? between MEM and World Elite and all he cares about is hurting people. TNA’s resident Ninja Turtle, Bobby Lashley, still doesn?t have a proper entrance video. It still just shows the motorcycle revving up and then the words ?Bobby Lashley? on the screen. Final Thoughts

Tonight was really crazy but in a fun way! Things were out of control all over the place and eventually to me it seems like Dixie Carter will have to come in and name a new authority figure to keep things in order.

Boy, are they really pushing the hell out of the World Elite and Hernandez both or what? World Elite looked really strong tonight with their brawls with MEM, TNA did a nice job of having them really hang with MEM in the brawl.

Hernandez came out looking very strong in his match with Angle and I love that they are slowly building him up. Giving him quality wins and making him look strong in matches with guys like Angle and Sting without squashing those guys as well.

The Ladder Match was extremely fun but there was no question that it was the Amazing Red show. I don?t know if Creed was sick or what but that was just nasty when he started blowing chunks. Red looked extremely strong and I am all for that as long as they don?t just feed him to Joe next week. It kind of looks like they are building towards Lashley vs. Joe for BFG and if that is so they could have Lashley cost Joe the X-Division Title next week and allow Red to continue to elevate that belt. Red getting a win over Joe no matter how it came will be huge and he can have a great feud with pretty much anybody in the division but what would likely happen would them have an Elimination X Match at BFG for the belt. TNA just revealed on their website that Joe and Lashley will face off at BFG in a Submission Match!

Foley and Abyss is getting really, really good. The whole Foley being mad about the picture thing is stupid but everything is spot on. People have called Abyss a Mick Foley wannabe in the past and this is just perfect and they even namedropped Monsters Ball during their promo. Both guys are intense and TNA just announced on their website that they would go at it in the Monsters Ball at BFG!

Nash and Stevie was surprisingly not bad. Stevie didn?t get totally squashed and Nash still looked really strong. I?m just not sure where they are going to go with Nash at this point unless he’s going to defend against one of the World Elite guys. Right now everybody else has feuds or starting feuds. MEM has been going back and forth with the Brits and Beer Money for quite some time, Joe is starting up with Lashley, Morgan and Angle are going at it. Nash needs something to start soon unless they continue to thing with Stevie but I just don?t see that happening unless he brings in someone to feud with Nash.

I loved the segment between AJ and Sting and it looks like they?ll go with Sting going out of his way to prove that he is ready and is going to go hard for the title at BFG between now and then. All the reports online point to Sting sticking around after BFG so I don?t they?ll go the Title vs. Career route unless Sting does finally say BFG will be his last match.

The Knockouts looked strong again tonight. ODB vs. Tara vs. Kong has tons of potential and could be really special if given time. Lacey Von Erich was freaking gorgeous and she even brought out the Iron Claw (somewhere Hunter Golden marked out like a little kid).

Right now I?m really feeling all the stuff going on in TNA, they are really building up multiple feuds so they?re not just standing on one match to sell the PPV.
